I think it was a joke that Haskins' poor decisions almost made him mad enough to do something stupid in burning the redshirt.

I just read the eleven warriors post on it, but the comment on almost playing Tate came directly after Meyer saying he was bothered by Haskins' mistakes.

I'll admit, I didn't get all worked up during his recruitment. His size clouded my opinions. But it sure sounds like the kid has that "it" factor in spades so I'll buy in. Wiltfong made a comment that just watching how he carries himself on the sidelines he has an air of swagger in a good way. And the way Meyer seems to talk about him too. Pretty interested to see this kid in action.

Where in the World is Tate Martell This Week?
Happy Tatesgiving, everyone!
When Tate Martell enrolled early at Ohio State there was still the thought that J.T. Barrett might leave early for the NFL, which would then make the quarterback competition a wide-open battle.
He understood, however, that if Barrett returned, he would likely redshirt.
After being a starting quarterback for the last three years of his high school career, taking a very big back seat can be difficult. His transition to Ohio State was not an easy one, but the early start back in January got him acclimated a lot quicker than other freshmen.
It wasn’t until the season started, however, that Martell really began to impress his coaches.
“I’m so proud of the way he’s been the last month,” quarterbacks coach Ryan Day said back in early October. “He has just gone to work every day and worked on getting better. It doesn’t matter whether he wants to go on scout team, he is a competitive kid and I’m really proud of his approach.
“All he’s focused on is getting better right now and trying to help out the team. He was highly recruited, and with that comes a lot of different things. But I cannot say enough about the way he has worked in the last month. He is going to have a really good career here. If he keeps working, he’s going to keep getting better. The sky is the limit for him as well.”
Martell has made his mark this season on the scout team, portraying the opposing team’s quarterback each week. He received raves for his impersonations of both Baker Mayfield and Trace McSorley.
Given Michigan’s lack of mobility at quarterback, Martell has actually been giving the OSU defense some looks at running back as well. And he’s apparently not too shabby.
“Yeah, he did a few reps of it, just to give us a different look with the speed and shiftiness he’s got and the vision he’s got. It’s really similar to 22 (Karan Higdon),” defensive end Sam Hubbard said.
“He’s been doing that for a few weeks because of the things he can do in the open field. He’s a hell of an athlete,” linebacker Chris Worley said.

Just sayin': It could easily be a 4 way battle (i.e. Dwayne Haskins, Joe Burrow, Emory Jones, and Tate) with the winner not chosen until late in the "fall camp"; however, it would not surprise me to see Tate starting at QB next year.

I've said that a number of times before. But I've read(not sure if here or on other boards) that some fans think that he'd never start, especially if we land Jones in the end. His skill set fits this offense too well to not be considered stronglyWhere in the World is Tate Martell This Week?

Re: For his high school career, he went 45–0 as a starter and finished second in Nevada history with 7,510 passing yards and 113 touchdowns. As a senior, he was the Gatorade Football Player of the Year after leading the team to a 15–0 record, while passing for 2,362 yards and 41 touchdowns, and rushing for 1,253 yards and 21 touchdowns
Tate is a "winner" plain and simple. He could be the Ohio State equivalent of the "on the field" Johnny Manziel without the "off the field" Johnny Football baggage.

I'm really pulling for Tate to get the job to be honest... for the simple fact of that 45-0 mark. Give me a guy who never wants to lose everytime.
Especially if that said guy is a perfect fit for this offense which he is. Sure, Haskins is the better arm talent but are we a throw first kind of offense? No we aren't, and in this offense you need to be able to move the chains with your legs.
