Jarren Williams was a top100 recruit himself ... of course there's going to be some competition and some probability that Tate doesnt win it.
Though given his history, there's also a probability that if Jarren makes the coaches think, Tate just leaves.
And at that point he'd absolutely end up at FCS or pushing luck with another xfer req at a mid major.

Problem is, even if young Tathan wins the job at Da U, he is almost going to regret it because they're OL is(and has been since the glory years) a shit show. All the athletes in the world won't matter at the skill position when the QB is constantly running for his life and lying on his back. Its going to be a rough go for whoever wins that job. The only saving grace is that they're schedule is laughably soft.

The whole thing has just been bad management even from before we got him. Bounced away from Aggie, etc. and signed to play for Urban to be a quicker, if smaller, but better passing new version of JTB. Things changed, though, and maybe he (and his family?) should've seen that earlier and moved to a school that plays his type of offense a year earlier, even before Meyer left. Now he may or may not be the starter at Cryami which may or not be the right place from a scheme perspective.

Tate Martell not so much

It was a rough public debut for Tate Martell. His first pass was a wobbler for Miami’s first three-and-out of the game. His first series against the Hurricanes’ first-team defense ended with an interception by defensive back DJ Ivey, when the quarterback threw into heavy traffic. One fan tried to start an “Overrated” chant for the highly touted transfer from the Ohio State Buckeyes, but no one followed.

Even in the second half when Miami let Martell run its second-team offense against the third-team defense, the redshirt junior struggled to move the ball. On his first drive of the third quarter, Martell began with a throw behind a receiver, tripped while going back for a play-action pass, then threw a third-down pass about 10 yards short of his target. Maybe the ball was tipped on a couple of those wobbly throws, but that’s an issue, too, for the 5-foot-11 quarterback.

And the 26 people who were there were confused because they didn’t know who the hell Martell was in the first place and therefore had no clue if he was overrated or not.
