Tate Martell gets one drive at quarterback, then back to bench
Sophomore quarterback Tate Martell relieved Jarren Williams who was benched in the second quarter of the Independence Bowl against Louisiana Tech.
Martell carried the ball on his first snap with no gain with Miami trailing 7-0. He completed a seven-yard pass on third down on his first drive.
He had five carries for five yards on the drive, which ended with a three-yard loss on a sack, forcing a punt.
It is Martell's first game at quarterback since the opener against Florida.

Two QBs ahead of him, Jarren Williams will be a SO next season and N'Kosi Perry a JR. Tate was given a chance to provide a spark and maybe insert himself into the discussion for the QB job next season and was yanked after a series. I don't think it's going too far out on a limb to say that we may have seen the last of Tate in CFB...at least at a "major" program.

True, but they stuck with them and Tate got one series after not even playing more than a few plays all year. That's pretty telling to me.

Well, in all fairness, Tathan first set the Ohio State completion percentage record for a single game (10-10, 121 yards). Then Tathan took his talents to Miami, where he finished the entire season with a perfect 100% completion percentage (1-1, 7 yards).
