QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

For all the negativity about Tathan and his family (I have been a poster here on that, too) we should ensure that this part of Okudah's letter is called out here.

And then Tate, you know….. I think you really would have liked Tate. You raised me to trust my own compass, and judge people for myself — and I think Tate is one of these guys where there’s this perception of him that just isn’t true. He was always reaching out to me after you passed, and not in a way where it felt like some obligation on his part. It was like my pain was his pain, and he wanted me to know that. He made me feel like I was a part of his family — his mom would even check up on me. And little stuff like that means everything when you’ve just lost your own mom. Tate was always there for whatever I needed.

Good on you, Tate.

Rutgers quarterback situation is pretty dire. They’ve already poached some buckeyes. From what i’ve found the knights like to run the ball with their quarterback and the starter from last year just graduated. In looking at some articles, Rutgers writers don’t find next years current options at Qbvery promising.

King beat out the likes of redshirt juniors N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell, redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha and true freshman early enrollee Tyler Van Dyke for the job. All eyes will now turn to Perry and, especially, Martell to see if either — or both — enter the transfer portal.

I once posted that Martell was a "winner" and I predicted he would have a "Johnny Manziel without the baggage" career at Ohio State.

Just sayin':

1. Well, obviously he was overrated, if he wanted to be a starting QB maybe he should have transferred to a bad FCS team where he would be given the starting job.

2. However, I guess all is not lost at DaU, (baring any injuries) after this season he'll have one more shot at winning the starting QB job in 2021 as King is a rsSr this season (2020).

3. Regardless, I wouldn't now recommend that he transfers again; it's obvious he doesn't have a career in football so I would strongly suggest he work hard for a degree from Miami that would lead to a prosperous/rewarding career for him after football.

Not sure if he was "overrated" but never quite found his landing spot. Happens in the crazy world that is CFB, he was never going to touch the field in meaningful minutes at Ohio State.
To me, he has undoubtedly shown that he was over-rated...and this is coming from someone who initially thought the kid would tear it up in college. Script is right in that he's an FCS-level QB, and that he needs to stay put at Miami and get a degree from a academically-solid university.

He couldn't get playing time with the shit show Miami had at QB last year. Maybe the talent is there, but the commitment isn't. I don't know what the issue is, but Tate has not come anywhere close to realizing the hype that preceded him, which makes him, by definition, overrated.
