QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Probably alone here - but at this point I wish him well and really hope he balls out finally. You don't go undefeated in high school without some talent. It was all mental with him and you'd have to think he's been humbled, grown up and found some maturity. I'll be rooting for him.

I hope he gets his degree.
But honestly, his team going undefeated had some to do with him, but he had a ton of talent around him. Just like saying Shea Patterson must've been so talented in HS(while playing at IMG). Tate would've been a good CFB starter in the right system, but honestly should've switched to WR.

I do too; however, he's been in college 4 years now. He's transferred twice and (needless to say) not all credits will transfer from on school to another. I just wonder what his academic standing is at UNLV.

Reminds me of a true/funny story: I ran into a father I knew from coaching Little League years ago, I asked him how his son was doing now. He said that his son finally graduated from college, and that his son's Freshman year was the best 4 years of his life.....

The fact that someone, presumably older than Tate, still harbors such a grudge is 10x more disturbing to me than anything the kid ever said or did.

There are elements of Buckeye Nation that are very hard to stomach.
That's all I'm saying too...its unreal.

Yeah he was a tool for trying to chase Justin away but it's done and it occurred over 2 years ago. There is just no need to keep harping on this kid so far after the fact.

I mean, it’s Barstool, so while your point remains, there is no obligation to stomach anything about their hired trolls. They really suck.

Scholarship or walk-on at UNLV?

Why UNLV? In an exclusive interview with Joe Arrigo of Franchise Sports Media, Martell went in-depth on why he chose UNLV. He cited head coach Marcus Arroyo as a big driving factor.

“That’s simple. It was coach Arroyo,” Martell said. “Getting to know him, how he does things and treats his players, it’s first-class. While at Ohio State, I saw how a winning culture impacts a team. How when the team buys into it, they become more than a team — they are a family — and coach Arroyo is building that here and building it the right way. Once we step on the field, our opponents know that the Rebels are going to give them one hell of a fight, that we won’t back down or be an easy win, and that all starts with what coach Arroyo is building, and I want to be a part of that.”

As for if he looked anywhere else, Martell says he had a “few opportunities” elsewhere. He did not specify where.

“I had a few opportunities to go play at other places on scholarship, but I want to do it for the city, my home,” Martell said. “I am walking on as an athlete because I want to contribute to the team in any way to help win games. Honestly, this is where I want to be and who I want to play for. UNLV checked off all the boxes for me on and off of the field. But I just want to come in, grind and compete. Just put my head down and work and be a leader and a person coach Arroyo, the coaching staff, and my teammates can trust and count on.”

I hope he gets a chance to play and plays well. Returning to a city where had success seems like it can only help him at this point.
