QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

De-empathized or not, you still need someone who can run it well. The issue will be whether the gap in the passing abilities of Fields and Martell will be sufficiently greater than the gap in their running abilities.
I think the biggest gap is mentally getting up to speed in the offense. That would've been the best advantage Tate had and assuming that he leaves is the challenge Day & Co. will face with Fields.

I hope everyone will remember that this is a kid. He's handled his business in the classroom well. He's the golden boy. The one everyone deferred to in high school. The one who adults knew would probably go further than they in life. Life probably has yielded to him more than not and things probably have gone his way almost all the time. So, if that's true, think about how your early 20s self would deal with your entire world crashing in around you. You had lots of choices, chose Urban Meyer and Ohio State and then Meyer has this year, these headaches, this Smith trainsmash, bad headaches, and he retires.

Things have changed all around him and he is getting perhaps the biggest disappointment of his life. I hope everyone gives him some space to process the fact that life is gonna hand you lots of lemons, some of them huge. He's a kid who needs to learn how to make lemonade. Everyone of us has had to learn how or life has been pretty bad for a while. I'm betting he makes it, but I don't think it will be at Ohio State.

He is not getting paid ... maybe Fields got a wink and a nod from Day to come here. Tate has to watch out for Tate.

Absolutely. I'm just glad there wasn't social media in the early-90s when I was at tOSU. I wish him nothing but the best.

Yeah I expect the opposition will talk trash to him about it whatever happens. But no need for us to even if he leaves before the competition. People say and do dumb things when they are young and even when they are not so young. See the transformation Cardale made in his years and school.

I think Tate has got to do what is best for him just like Fields had to do what he thought was best for him. I blame Tate not one bit if he decides to transfer. I would too. Competitors want to play.

Did not appreciate his words about Fields during the process. That hurt him a bit to be so brash publicly. But that’s probably a byproduct of his upbringing and it’s hard to respond to the first real challenge in your life.

I don't know.... perhaps I'm wrong but so far he's come off a little "Baker Mayfield"...at least IMO. Yes, this could be a couple of isolated incidents of diarrhea of the mouth or we could be dodging a bullet if he does choose to leave. I'm still willing to give him the benefit of doubt. But, only for so long....
