QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

IMO I don't want Tate to stick around after how he's handled the Fields transfer. He can sit there and talk smack and then once Fields pulls the trigger you bail out. To me, talking all that crap you should put your money where your mouth is and stay to compete.....otherwise I call into question your desire to compete and most of all your character when things might get tougher on ya. Just because you were an elite recruit don't mean the job is gonna be given to you if someone that has the goods gives you a run for your money!

Could be a nice fit....think he’s a significantly better player than Jack Allison who is on deck to start.

Kind of an odd situation to walk into when they’ve got a new HC. I don’t think WVU is even in the same stratosphere as some other options that could put him on a better stage.

I still think if he’s willing to be semi-patient or be willing to battle, FSU with Kendal Briles makes the most sense. Kendal Briles converted a legit WR into the CFB touchdown leader at the QB position last season (D’erik King). I think Briles and Tate could do huge things....but DeAndre Francois is back and it’d be a competition for this season.

Still not sure why UCLA and Tate aren’t linked strongly. To be honest, if UCLA never gets involved, as close as Day and Chip are, it’d tell me a lot that isn’t being said publicly.

There’s a few other schools that would make perfect sense, but haven’t seen any mention at all so won’t go down rabbit hole. I just hope he’s smart about his decision, and doesn’t jump at the first shiny object. I think WVU could provide early PT, but that’s a tough job with a new coach, new system, and difficult schedule. He may like what they’re selling, but it could be ugly from the jump.

Chip Kelly's recruiting class hasn't been that good, basically a bunch of 3 star players and one 4 star. Here is an article about how they can't figure out what Kelly is doing because he isn't putting out offers to players.

Also Chip Kelly's track record of keeping his QBs healthy was pretty bad. I remember when he was down to his 4th or 5th QB starting one season.

Recruiting is probably harder for him since he lost his subscription to Willie Lyles' Complete Scouting Services.

UCLA is saving $25K though, so there is that.

He's the golden boy. The one everyone deferred to in high school. The one who adults knew would probably go further than they in life. Life probably has yielded to him more than not and things probably have gone his way almost all the time. So, if that's true, think about how your early 20s self would deal with your entire world crashing in around you.

Sorry, I can't agree with this sentiment that someone who experiences wins their whole life should get extra sympathy when they finally take an L.

But I don't blame him for transferring either. If I'm stuck in a dead end job I'm going to find another one. That's fine.

The way he handled the whole thing though makes him look bad and frankly I think it shows a lack of character, especially with opening the door to transfer now. Even if you don't believe in the whole "no I in team" you didn't have to make all that public. Whether you honestly felt it or not he could have said "more depth at QB will only make us stronger, welcome aboard, but I'm ready to prove myself on the field"

It wasn't just one comment either you could chalk up to a mistake. There are plenty of young players carrying themselves maturley in public/social media, so I don't think it's an unreasonable virtue. Not saying it's worth castrating the guy over, but boy it's really makes you look like a scared Chihuahua that was just barking up a storm with no intention of fighting. Had he said something stupid online about an opponent or something I wouldn't give it much thought, but going after Fields at that point was like going after his own team.

I'd love for a QB competition instead of a straight away transfer, but the way Tate carried himself before this news it really had me questioning if he was the right type of character to lead this team. I'm wondering if perhaps Day didn't think something similar and maybe this is what expedited the transfer process this early?

Unless FSU's oline has undergone some sort of miracle or sold their souls to Saban ... i wouldnt recommend any QB go there.
Shocked Francois is returning... no suitors?

And that's without even discussing the Briles family.

FSU is only interesting bc of Briles taking over play-calling duties and what he’s done with QB’s in the past.

You are correct that FSU’s line was absolute trash last year, but part of that was a lack of OT’s. The good news for FSU is Briles prefers Guards to Tackles and actually plays 3 and often 4 guards around a Center based on how he likes to execute his offense. He’s a believer in pulling his lineman and likes maulers who can push downhill. He believes it helps the run game. He offsets not utilizing tackles by relying on quick passing game and a lot of QB roll-outs (moving the pocket).

Anyways, there’s a reason a WR, converted to QB, led the nation in TD’s last year.....and it’s bc of Briles. The issue as I stated before, is Francois went from leaning towards going pro, to hoping Kendal can increase his draft stock....which means either competing for the job (which I think Tate could win) or at worst having some packages similar to this year, but ultimately waiting one more year to have the reigns.

The transfer portal memes at r/CFB are reaching record heights. People are requesting transfer portal flair, proposing that all the guys in the transfer portal go to Kansas or some other historically bad program, and saying that Tathan has removed his name from the transfer portal because he doesn't like competing for the spot.

It's off-season madness at its best.
