One way for you to be a healthy buckeye and get active with the football team, is to join the Buckeyes in doing the quick cals before each home game at the 23 minute mark!

ESPN: BLOCK O SECOND BEST STUDENT SECTION IN THE BIG TEN

Folks, Ohio State's student section has been dissed in arbitrary rankings in an ESPN article. Time to fire up the ol' internet rage machine!!!!!11

After calling Penn State students the best student-fans in the country, here's what they said about the Block O:

The Buckeyes have such a wide swath of supporters in Ohio that they can sometimes feel like a pro team, but the large and dedicated student section at the Horseshoe keeps that from being the case. Occupying much of the south end zone, the Block-O often leads the stadium in cheers. Urban Meyer started a new tradition where he and strength coach Mickey Marotti lead the students through a series of "quick cals" before the game. And win or lose, the team sings "Carmen Ohio" in front of the band and student section after games.

Urban Meyer: We never take for granted playing in front of over 107,000 in our home! Go Bucks!

Coach Meyer would like to say thank you to the students for your support and for making the Quick Cals a great new tradition. In case you're unfamiliar with Quick Cals, follow these instructions at the next game. At 23 minutes before kickoff, the players finish their warm-ups and will gather in the south endzone in front of the student section to perform the routine. Follow the whistles and the hand gestures, then scream as loud as you can!

QUICK CALS ARE NOT HORRIBLE, BUT OHIO STATE CAN CERTAINLY DO BETTER

Despite their perceived simplicity (they're literally just three different hand movements combined with clapping), students and fans still seem to have a hard time learning them. I mean, I have personally done them every game for three years and if you asked me to perform them without a leader, I could not do it.

"Literally zero people have memorized Quick Cals," said Cameron Duffner, a fifth year pre-med student. And if you take a gander through the student section while the pregame routine is taking place, Duffner does not sound far off.

The purpose of the routine is to engage and energize the student body before every game, serving as a sort of hype up ritual. However, if the students (and regular fans too; lets not forget, most of the stands are filled with those who don't have a valid BuckID) aren't pumped about doing Quick Cals in the first place (and also haven't successfully memorized them in four years), they probably aren't going to fulfill their purpose of engaging and energizing the crowd.

With that, I wanted to know what students and fans other than myself thought of the pregame ritual.

As a former statistics major and current marketing major, I performed a series of incredibly scientific surveys (I asked my friends, "How do you feel about Quick Cals?" and posted a Twitter poll) to determine exactly what the student population thinks about the new tradition. I expected strong opinions, one way or the other, but that's really not at all what I got.
