Rank the Accuracy of the BCS NC Selections

Zurp

I have misplaced my pants.
Based on your opinions, which seasons have been the best (most accurate) picks for contenders in the national championship game? Which seasons have been the worst? I'm not talking about "year X had a boring game", but more like, "year X had this team that didn't belong", or "year Y had the BCS picking the perfect two teams to play each other".

In my opinion, here's my ranking of the worst selections:

1. 2011 - The rematch was a horrible deal. But the alternative was Oklahoma State? Really? Pretty much no team deserved to play against LSU. Maybe that point can be argued now that LSU lost to Alabama. There was no winning for the BCS as a system in 2011. Note: if it wasn't a rematch, this probably would not have been in the top 5.

2. 2007 - By default, Ohio State and LSU made it. But in reality, no one deserved to be there. The only thing that kept it from being worse than 2011 was that it wasn't a rematch.

3. 2004 - Not to argue that one team deserved to be in the national championship game over either of the other two, but the BCS is going to lose about 33% of their credibility any time an undefeated team from a major conference (the SEC, in this case) doesn't make it to the national championship game. The BCS was going to lose no matter which team got left out.

4. 2003 - Just like 2004, they had to leave someone out. Personally, I'm glad it was USC because I enjoy their crying. But all three teams had one loss, so I don't mind it as much as the 2004 BCS national championship game.

I'll have to think about each of the seasons to figure out my rankings for the best.

I personally like 2002. Without the BCS we play in the Rose Bowl. Even if we win, most likely Miami would have been voted National Champs as long as they held serve in their bowl game.

In 1998 - did Ohio State have a legitimate argument to go play Tennessee in the Fiesta bowl as opposed to Florida State?

Both teams had only 1 loss?

I'm asking because I have no memory of it being a controversy didn't live in Ohio at that time.

IMHimo:

1998 should have been Tennessee-OSU.

FSU was probably not the best pick against Oklahoma in 2000.

2001 should have been Miami-Oregon.

2003 should have been LSU-USC.

2009 was a good one, Alabama and Texas both 13-0, shut out the wannabes in Boise, TCU and Cincy.

FSU lost an ugly one early and was around #5 before a series of losses bumped them up into the right place at the right time. That was probably one of the best OSU teams ever, and it's easy to believe they would have beaten either Tennessee or FSU that year.

I think the BCS got it right in 2006, us vs them Gatas. Undefeated Ohio State, and NOT selecting scUM for a rematch when it was already settled on the field is a win in my book, especially after witnessing the abortion of a title game this year

2001 Nebraska was the single most egregious mistake the BCS has made. There have been many that were very bad, but in NO WAY did that Nebraska team deserve to play for the title after having been demolished by Colorado in their final game.

It was wrong for Alabama to go to the BCS title game when they didn't win their conference, and it was wrong for Nebraska, too. Wrong is wrong.

Worst

2007 - If there ever needed to be a playoff it was then
2011 - Rematch with no playoff
2001 - knapplc said it all
2003 - U$C should have been there
2004 - Auburn got robbed but it was the same as 2003 (plus, they should have beat Va. Tech by more to cause a possible split again)

Best
2002 - 14-0 :osu: against the unbeatable beast from South Beach
2005 - Ask anyone what the best BCSCG were and 2002 and 2005 come up. U$C vs Texa$ in a classic great team vs great player match up.

Lastly, why would you bring up 1998? I just started to heal. Damn it!

Not saying that my Dawgs would have beaten either OSU or LSU that year, but I simply wanted a better BCS game than [Mark May]ty Hawaii.

If memory serves, most Dawg fans had everything packed to head to Pasadena to play John David Booty and Southern Cal. Stupid ass traditional alliances forced [censored]ing Zook in that game instead.

SC blew out Big Orange and we smoked Hawaii. Perfect time for a 2nd round of games.

2011- by far the worst

2004- Oklahoma never belonged in that game. They lost their Conf. Title Game and STILL get in. :shake:

Everything else is a non issue compared to these two blunders..

Unless you're talking about the national championship game that was in January, 2004, you're thinking of 2003. In 2004, Oklahoma, USC, and Auburn ended undefeated.
