RB/WR/DB Demario McCall (Official Thread)

Love it. I think he can get some carries and also be involved in the pass game this year. Hoping the flashes we've seen turn into a nice senior year.

He can be a huge mismatch out of the backfield or motioning into the slot. Really think he could be an essential part of the offense even if we don't see him put up big numbers.

Also, he's a RS JR, right? Or did he not get the medical redshirt approved in 17?

Had it in my head that he was a senior but looked and you're right, he's a RS junior. Definitely exciting to have him for a couple more years. And agreed, I like McCall the best when we motion him out of the backfield. Going to be hard for defenses to give him too much attention with Hill, Victor, Mack, etc. out there.

Anyone with bonafides care to give a real assessment on his measurables? Height and weight.

I’ve seen 5’9” and 195lbs?

I've heard he's kinda like those toys that you put in water and then expand. Varies from 5'4 155 to 6'6 278. Gonna be tough to stop when he hydrates.

But seriously, what you put sounds right. I doubt he's much over 200.

Demario McCall Ready to Break Out All His Old Moves

Demario-McCall-Rutgers-1170x780.jpg

A couple of weeks ago, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said the Buckeyes were still looking for a No. 2 running back to complement starter JK Dobbins.

A week later, he said Demario McCall had the edge at the moment.

This week, running backs coach Tony Alford said McCall was indeed his backup running back.

McCall is now a fourth-year junior, carrying three years of expectations and frustrations. Injuries have neutralized him the last two seasons, When healthy, however, he has been an exciting and productive player. The production in those brief windows of good health have both confirmed his abilities and frustrated himself and those around him.

That is why when speaking with reporters this week, he didn’t take long to acknowledge how appreciative he was to finally be healthy.

“Just individually, I just want to thank God for being healthy, 100 percent,” he said. “I haven’t felt that way in a pretty long time. So I do feel like myself and I do got goals set and I hope to just have a grateful season. Stay healthy through the whole season. That’s all.”

McCall missed most of the spring with a calf issue, but worked hard in the summer to add weight, get stronger, and get ready for the competition that camp was going to bring.

He made it through the summer just fine, and better than that, he believes he’s as good as he’s ever been. He is ready to get back on the field and all of his old moves will be coming with him.

“Yeah, they’re all back,” he said. “All of them. I’m bringing all of them out.”

Demario McCall, who had 52 yards on two kickoff returns and 40 yards on two punt returns, shared special teams player of the game recognition with safety Isaiah Pryor, who was a staple on the Buckeyes' special teams units Saturday, recorded two tackles on punts and accumulated 22 special teams production points from Ohio State's coaches' grading.

Just such between kind of player... not a game breaker speed wise and not big enough for between the tackles

Don't know if I agree with this. Plenty of guys around the country with his physical traits make plays for their teams. If I had to guess the reason he doesn't play is he's not a guy who handles his business in the classroom/ in the weight room/ on the practice field
