RB Erik Haw (official thread)

I would love to see Haw redshirted this year. Pittman looks strong, with the head start. Ross looks good, physically. Hopefully he will look good in his improvement too. Hall should be much better, after recovering from his surgery. Let Haw take a year to go against our first team D in practice rather than scrubs in garbage time. If garbage time does, actually, exist.:wink2:

We have six tailbacks right now:

Hall (SR)
Ross (SR)
Guilford (SO)
Haw (FR)
Kennedy (FR)
Pittman (FR)

We should never need more than three (pair and a spare), at worst four. The best frosh tailback should play and the other two should reshirt. That way, next year (after Hall and Ross are gone) we have the following, eligibility-wise (assuming Pittman is the frosh to play):

Guilford (JR)
Pittman (SO)
Haw (FR)
Kennedy (FR)

Doing so allows us to lose no more than two TBs to graduation at the same time.

Has anyone heard how Maurice Hall's rehab is going?

Also with the talk of Branden Joe possibly getting some reps at TB, I think you'll probably see 2 out of 3 out the freshmen getting redshirted.

I wouldn't worry about Mo Hall or Guilford. Hall is thinking about hanging it up, and the coaches are talking about redshirting him this year. He'll be graduated at the end of the year and may not want to come back in grad school.

Guilford better worry about academics first or he won't even be around this fall. He's not that great of a RB anyways. He'd be better off at safety.

If Haw and Pittman show they're capable of picking up the system and learning their blocking assignments, they'll both get carries this fall. Joe is a part-time RB. Lydell is the only other viable option. The way Pittman ran this Saturday, I don't see how you keep him off the field for too long.

coach t did say today that r.parker has had a great spring and it was too bad that he got dinged in the s-g game...

coach also raved about how great of a spring flydell put in .......

pittman is going to demand playing time with his ability....not only can he run the ball, but he made some nice blocks and even ran down childress from behind on a kickoff return....bam would have had about 20 more yards if pittman didnt play it so well....
simply, the kid can play.....

ross, pittman and joe will do fine.....barring injury....

Don't forget about Roshaun Parker!!

Damn, how could I have forgot about Parker, with how I've supported him in the past. ysubuck is right, Parker gives us yet another reason to redshirt two of the three frosh.

So if we redshirt Haw and Kennedy, we still have Ross, Hall, Guilford, Joe, Pittman, and Parker possibly available ? 6 in the hand and two in the bush huh ?

So in 05/06 we'll have plenty backs and young at that. I think signing only 1 rb for the 05/06 class is enough. We can use schollies for the o-line that helps these fellas.

i think the situation with the Frosh RBS will be kind of a 'wait and see' type thing, in which the clear leader plays, but the other two only see the field by neccessity... in other words, not redshirt them from the beginning per se, but don't play them unless you HAVE to, which, in all likelihood would lead to at least one redshirt...

i think Kennedy could eventually see the field at a different position, maybe WR or safety... he seems a bit light to play tailback in the Big Ten (listed at 180)... of course, you can never count out the size of a guys heart...

don't forget that Tressel likes versatility, and in his system, speed is speed, no matter what side of the ball...

WOW. i was just looking at our commit list again, and this is probably Tressel's best class to date... all kinds of talent, all across the board...

I don't care what any of you say, you have to win now with your best players, and having seen a lot of tape on Haw I have little to no doubt that he is going to be one of our best running backs, if not the best.

Could we do it without him? Probably but why fight with one arm tied behind your back so you can use him later? You gotta play him now if he is as good as I believe, and others seem to agree who have seen him play.

Speed, power, vision, Great cuts, and stop and start speed.

He is got moves like a madden football game, and that speed. It's almost unfair.

I will be very surprised if he red shirts, the only way I see that happening is if he can't block, has problems picking up the offense, or gets hurt.

HH has said that after watching Pittman and Ross this spring, Kennedy is better than the two of them. That should also make for an interesting fall. Hopefully, he can quickly pick up the system in the fall and challenge for PT. I do agree, though, that ideally, we coulse redshirt two of the freshmen.

well, after reading the above posts my take on this is that Ross will be the #1, with Joe playing some time at tailback with maybe Hall (if) or Pittman spelling those guys, I really think Haw will redshirt UNLESS we have some injuries, I think Haw coming in the fall and picking up everything will be tough, especially since Pittman came in early, its obvious to me that we are looking pretty good at tailback, better than last year.

I was told that the "Scout teams" for Ohio State play pretty damn hard and alot of them really take a beating in these real game situations and at times
the scout teams look alot better than the 11 starters on defense and offense. I don't know how true this is but if it is - it sure seems to be working. I think the coaching staff at Ohio State do a good job at finding home for these kids on the playing field even if there is intent of "Red Shirting" a kid. So i think Haw will so up somewhere real soon.

Guys I think that many of us are buying into the "too much to learn stuff". We are completely discounting Kennedy and Haw. They could very well be better than Pittman, Ross or Guilford (if he is elgible)*.

That is why we have Summer Practice and you know that Haw and Kennedy all ready have their base package play books and are ready to go this summer.
