RB Ira Guilford (Official Thread)

AJHawkfan said:
Of course, OK just re-instated their resident ex-con Dvoracek after being suspended. Did missing last season cost him a year of eligibility?
Dvorocek got a 6th year from the NCAA. Last year basically amounted to a medical redshirt for alcoholism, since he was drunk when he beat up his 'friend' so bad he put him in the hospital.

BUCKNUTS (Prem)

Coach Tressel stated that he was not optimistic that Guilford will rejoin the team, based on academics. Its doubtful in his opinion but did mention they have stayed in contact with Ira during the year and Coach T said he is a good kid, that simply made a bad decision.

I guess the chances are slim for his return to the team.

Free from the O-Zone. Pretty similar to what 44820 said...

Lack of Forward Progress: Former running back/defensive back Ira Guilford has been out of the football program since having a run in with the law last fall. According to Tressel, there is little chance that he will return to the Buckeyes. "I'm not sure that there's a chance, because of the amount of hours you need to move toward progressing to your degree," Tressel said.

"I think it's doubtful."

I found a shocker when I was reading the USC news in todays Daily News:

Former Buckeye eyes transfer
By Scott Wolf, Staff Writer

Former Ohio State tailback Ira Guilford wants to transfer to USC, and he attended Thursday's practice, although the Trojans haven't evaluated him enough to make any decision regarding a possible scholarship offer. Guilford, from Hoboken, N.J., rushed for 64 yards in 28 carries as a true freshman in 2003. He was rated the nation's seventh-best safety prospect by Rivals.com as a high school senior.

Ohio State suspended Guilford last May after he was arrested with another player for mugging a student, and he did not return to the Buckeyes. Guilford was sentenced to two years' probation and 45 days of house arrest after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault in October.

This is the second time Guilford has visited USC recently, although no football coaches were present the first time he arrived on campus to express an interest in transferring.

Although USC could be thin at tailback in two years if LenDale White and Reggie Bush turn pro after next season, Guilford might play safety or cornerback if granted a scholarship. He was a first-team all-state selection on offense and defense at Hoboken High.

From what I have seen, Scott Wolf is hardly the most accurate reporter, so take this for what it's worth...

If this kid wants to play football again and is entertaining thoughts of the NFL he better get his ass into a 1AA school somewhere and start to produce.

The ability to pick and choose big time 1A schools is in the past for him, he either needs to accept that and move on or join the Clarett school of wasted talent.

These kids need to realize the next wave of stud HS players is always just a year away and the OSU and USC's of the world can take their pick of the non-criminal types who can stay eligible. Why would they need to make room for someone with his bagage?

Couldn't agree more.
These guys think that since they were highly recruited a few years ago, that every school still has them at the top of the wish list.

Hmmmmm, where's he serving his probation? NJ or Columbus? Seems like he'd have to go back to scourt to get permission to even be in LA, much less planning to live there... can you serve out your probation under another court's jurisdiction? By that I mean, could he be called upon to report to a probation officer operating out of LA courts?
