RB J.K. "All Day" Dobbins (2017 B1G CG MVP, 2019 1st Team All-American, Baltimore Ravens)

Why would Dobbins’ height matter that much? His weight and build would impact the game more IMO. Hell, if you weigh in the 210-225 range, it’s probably better to be shorter. It’s easier to get through/hide in the holes if you aren’t a tree. There’s less to tackle and you have a lower center of gravity.

How would being 5’9” make it harder to run away from opposing defenses? Because his legs may be shorter? Sure, longer legs leads to longer strides but you can run fast at any height. There is a lot that goes in to running fast other than height. Proper mechanics is probably the first factor. Also, we are talking football speed and not sprinting speed. The guys who would be chasing Dobbins are DL (not necessarily the fastest guys on the field,) LB and DB. Most of these guys (LB and DB) aren’t usually 6’6” or anything so the difference in height shouldn’t be a huge discrepancy football-speed-wise. And the height difference is also spread out across the body so the guys who are 3 inches taller don’t have legs 3 inches longer and yet the exact same size everything else. The legs might be an inch longer. Is that a big deal?

No idea and I’ve never had concern over his speed but I’m inclined to think another offseason spent in the SC program combined with his second season in the system are going to do...something significant for him this season so ultimately I think this’ll end up moot as fuck.

He's not being chased by lineman he's being chased by 6 foot+ defensive backs.

I said I don't care about the breakaway speed and I think as is he's the best back in college ball. So I could care less about his breakaway speed but there's no denying his short choppy steps aren't the best in the open field on breakaways.

Any rate I could care less because his 7+ ypc is all I care about.

I believe I mentioned DB in the post you quoted. My question to you is if the DB that are chasing him are really THAT much taller? Even a 4 inch difference does not equate to a 4 inch difference in leg length. The average NFL DB is 5’11”/193.4 lbs per a Sports Illustrated article a few years ago. The 2017 NFL combine DBs measured in at...

Jamal Adams LSU 6'0 214
Brian Allen Utah 6'3 215
Chidobe Awuzie Colorado 6'0 202
Budda Baker Washington 5'10 195
Jamal Carter Miami (FL) 6'1 218

Ezra Robinson Tennessee St. 5'11 189

Jack Tocho NC State 6'0 202
Damarius Travis Minnesota 6'1 206
Michael Tyson Cincinnati 6'1 204

Tre'Davious White LSU 5'11 192
Marcus Williams Utah 6'1 202
Howard Wilson Houston 6'1 184
Quincy Wilson Florida 6'1 211
Ahkello Witherspoon Colorado 6'3 198
Xavier Woods Louisiana Tech 5'11 197

So these DBs (some of them) maybe have legs an inch or a little more longer? That height difference isn’t all in the legs only.

I see a majority of 6’0” and 6’1” in there with some others at 5’9” and 6’3”.

Dobbins is listed at 5’10” btw and had a 4.45 forty time at the Opening before setting foot on campus. There is probably an inch or 2 difference between him and the average DB. So I’m guessing the average DBs legs are like half an inch or so longer.

Somehow, I missed that one when it came out. My only comment is:
