RB Lydell Ross (official thread)

I'm putting my money on no. I hope that I am wrong, but I see a running back by committee approach this year. I think that Ross, Hall, Joe and Pittman/Haw are going to share alot of carries this year. I see it looking something like this:

Ross - 800
Joe - 500
Hall - 500
Pittman/Haw - 200
Smith - 200
Parker - 200

That comes out to be around 200 yards per game (including the bowl game). That maybe optimistic, but it achievable.

If tOSU rushes for 200 yds/game, it will be a great season and one of the young QB's will have developed into a serious threat

I totally agree. I am much more optimistic about the QB's after reading the article about Zwick. I also think that the OL will be a pretty strong unit (if Barton is healthy).

When does betting close? If he makes it through camp healthy I think he will get 1000. He'll get an extra 200 yard just by not running up Clarke, and Bishops fat asses the whole season. It's a hell of a lot easier to sqeeze by a 290 lb lineman than a 320+ lineman.

I dont' think he will, but I'm not being pessimistic, I just think we have too much talent in the backfield too have it all concentrated on one guy. I see Pittman, Joe, & Hall getting a lot of carries.

The way Pittman carried the ball, I can see him getting a lot of time. And I really like B. Joe as an opposing type of runner.

PS. I'd also like to add that this betting thing is really cool and another reason this is such a great site. Keep the wagers coming, it makes the season even more interesting!!!

I'm gonna slap some vmoney down on Lydell, partly just because I like the guy (not the wisest of betting strategies, for sure), but mainly because I think he's got the ability, I think he will be the clear #1 back on the team throughout the year, and because of that I think he will get the bulk of the carries. Before deciding how much to stake though, I've got to answer the real question (in my mind): will the retooled O-line make it possible for him to break 1000 without having to be Barry Sanders?

One unrelated question: what are those little green marks lined up underneath everyone's vcash total?

One thing you might want to bear in mind, Tressel feels a lot of loyalty to his seniors. If it's even clost between two of them, he'll give Ross and Hall the benefit of the doubt. I think a healthy Ross behind a more athletic line (provided they keep their heads in the game and don't repeat too many mistakes) should break 1000 on the year.

Lydell Interview

Ohio State RB Lydell Ross

I blame myself when an interview sucks. I didn't really plan on interviewing Lydell Ross and didn't really have anything to ask him, but there was no one at his table and I figured I should talk to a Buckeye since the team might end up being the best in the Big Ten. I asked generic questions and got standard answers. Once again, my bad.

CFN:
So where is everyone? You could be the best back in the Big Ten this year playing for a team in the hunt for the title and no one's around the Buckeyes?

LR: I don't know man, I don't know.

CFN: Ohio State seems to feed off people disrespecting you, do you guys take it personally and focus harder when the fans or media don't give you enough credit?

LR: I don't really think about that sort of stuff. I just go out and take care of business. It's easy to stay focused when you're confident and focused and when you have goals.

CFN: What are those goals this year?

LR: Get back to the national championship, gain 1,000 yards and just help the team be successful. I'll just do whatever I have to do to help the team win.

CFN: After the success Ohio State has had do you really shoot for the national title or with a coach like Tressel is it more of a one game at a time approach? Most coaches wouldn't even let the players say the words national title before a season.

LR: We stay focused every game. We have some big ones early we need to get past, but we know what it's like to play for a national title and we want to get back there.

CFN: Is going to the Fiesta Bowl less fun when it's not for the national title?

LR: It's still fun. Not as much fun though and we want to play for the national title. Going to the Fiesta isn't bad, but we want the national title game this year.
