RB Lydell Ross (official thread)

I read every interview in this thread and the one that gained my most interest was the one on Kyle Orton of Purdue. And Purdue gave us one hell of a game in the "Shoe" last year. I think they are a team with a "Focus" and Iowa could be right up there this year also. Infact, lets say that this year the whole BIG10 will be more balanced than ever. This is what makes this conference so strong.

But the reluctance of this reporter to do an interview with Lydell Ross made me laugh. He did it anyway and he felt he got burned. At least that is the way i take it. Maybe the news media and jounalistic hawks do not really enjoy doing takes on any Ohio State players or coaches. You don't get much out of them and most of them are pretty dry. Coach Tressel is really not one to expound or go into great depth about his team. And journalist and news media people steer away from people like him because of the obvious. In reality the jury is still out on Jim Tressel and the Ohio State buckeyes until they win the 2nd N/C real quick. And when that happens the table of Ohio State at the BIG10 conference will be over-run with reporters. I hope that really happens this year. And guys like this ass-hole reporter can go and eat crow or s---.

Please explain.........

Kippy, not quite sure what you meant by this comment?

Are you saying that the media doesnt respect OSU or that the media in general is not interested in OSU because they are not one of the top teams this year?

Kippy- While I agree with you in General... the 'preface' here is just Fiutak's style... He like to blab at the reader... I'm sure he had his 'list' and probably only got real questions to about half those people... the real cocksucker move would have been to ignore Lydell to wait in the Joe Pa's line.

I thought Ohio State was in the top ten this year. And I don't think Ohio
State is getting enough respect from the news media in general. With waht has taken place since the Clarett incidents, maybe the media places Ohio
State as just another team that was a sort of "flash in the pan" situation and i really don't see that as such. This article just sort of got my dander up and i was defending TOSU.

Like I said... In General.. I agree... This is just Fiutak being Fiutak. (Likely he had Tressel on his list but couldn't get close to him... )

akabuck - good point on Fiutak, guess he is just doing his job but being here in the south, i still take flack from the miami fans and i have to defend myself to the hilt. Alot of reporters here in the south have stated that Jim Tressel is following in the footsteps of Jim Donnan who coached at Georgia and Terry Bowden of Auburn. both of those coaches came from 1-AA such as Marshall and Sanford. And incidently Jim Tressel beat both of them while at YSU. I had to remind them all of that little peace of history also. But alot of news media people now feel that the toughest conferences in football are In this order. SEC - BIG10 - BIG12 - ACC and the PAC10. But there is room for argument there I guess.

I'm new to this vcash thing, but here's why I think Lydell will reach 1,000 yards:

- Statistics: 400 yds in '01, 600 in '02, 800 in '03,.. anyone see a pattern?

- Offensive Line: A speed back relies on an OL to quickly make holes and create enough room to run. The '03 OL was for Clarett, the '04 line however..

- Lydell has shown improvement, and seems very determined. He's healthier than ever, and if JT gets creative with his play calling, Lydell can hit 1,000 easy (and maybe 1200).

- Who else is going to take carries? Branden Joe appears to be out for 2 weeks (per BN), while Hall is never going to be 100%. Pittman and Haw have great potential, but it's still just potential. You can't just bench a senior unless he gives a reason. I don't think Lydell will. He may not be able to get yards vs. Iowa, but Lydell is good enough to light up the Cinci and Marshall defenses for a fast start and some confidence.

- Being appointed as a captain is going to give him more responsibility and it sounds like he is embracing it. His attitude alone is quite an example for other Buckeyes, but he wants to show some on the field example too.

- Was Lydell ever a home run threat before? This year he is. The Jersey Scrimmage and Fiesta Bowl support that. If he can break a tackle or outrun one guy, he's off to the races. I think the '04 Fiesta Bowl was the first time I saw him use the stiff-arm. He's ready to make big time plays, guys, he's not timid anymore.

- Injuries may happen, but even with heavy injuries last year, he got 750 yards. This year, he's healthy heading into the season, which is important beyond the point that words can describe. I don't know that he'll make it through the entire season, but I think he'll have a healthier season than the last 3.

Right now, it's 4.5-1 in favor of Lydell getting his 1,000 yards. Anybody gonna try for the underdog?

Ross is 1,136 yards short of 3k, only 5 other backs in osu history have done that. Maybe a second vbet on the 3,000 career yards is called for??

what is wrong with Ross?

This is not intended to be a "bash Ross" thread, merely the question is this...

1. Ross is average at best...yes or no?

2. If Ross is average at best, why not go running back by commitee?

3. What are OSU's options at running back?
