RB Master Teague (3rd Team All B1G)

Teague is a Hardworking guy and lovable ! But as a RB he reminds me of Brandon Saine with the great size and straight line speed ... but outside of that it’s nothing else there .... I remember Saine being considered a slam dunk for OSU 6’1 205lb + RB with a 10.38 100m dash time you would think A Future Heisman winner was coming to OSU ! But he lacked All need attributes to be a Elite RB .... Teague is a poor mans Herschel Walker too me .... Herschel also was straight ahead run really fast straight line and just ran into people ... that worked back then when Linebackers were considered fast if they ran a 4.8 and CBs if they ran in the 4.5s but this day and age that game has passed on !! As someone else pointed out Teague is best suited as a back up RB for power situations

A very very good comparison in Saine... that's exactly who he is. A tad slower but a tad more powerful.

Futures bright at the RB spot regardless which will ease the QB transition next year.

Running back Master Teague just finished his second full season as a significant contributor for the Buckeyes. But the redshirt sophomore, after enrolling in January of 2018, is in his fourth full year at Ohio State as a student and is already thinking about what comes next academically. And apparently, Teague is doing well in the classroom.

Teague, a communications major according to his bio on OhioStateBuckeyes.com, was accepted into the university's Master of Architecture Program on Wednesday. The Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute announced the news on their Twitter account. Teague concluded his undergraduate degree as a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, a designation for those that carry a 3.0 or better grade-point average for the academic year.

Just sayin': Very impressive, I had a GPA over 3.0 just one quarter (out of 15 quarters, engineering was a 5 year program back then) and I had to take 2 of my 4 courses pass/fail* to get it.....:boogie:.........B.I.E '71

* Spring of 1970 after shutting down the university for almost 2 weeks due to the anti Vietnam protests, they allowed you do designate any classes as pass/fail in lieu of taking a grade.

Is he really an architecture major? I lived with two of them in Lincoln my soph year. They spent more time in their studio than they did in the dorms. They rivaled the football players for how little time they were in dorm rooms. Amazing if he pulled that degree off in three years... let alone three years while playing football.

I truly like what Master can bring to a game....the problem is he can only execute a subset of the gameplan.

Two years in a row, when the primary RB has been shelved, Master has struggled to bring any creativity into offense. There was a shot with the missed screen pass against Bama, but in general, it’s been bad.

He’s a specific skill set player (downhill run) and there’s nothing wrong with that. He just lacks the explosion and elusiveness to truly make defenses pay if they cheat on run vs. pass.....

I hope he has an extra gear next year as he continues to recover from Achilles injury. I don’t see the wiggle, but there’s nothing wrong with a sledgehammer when needed.....and it will be needed without the legs of Fields in short yardage situations.

Just sayin': I'll say he probably is or something very closely related to it. I lived with several rooms of football players back in 1966 - 1970 in Smith Hall. Some of them were very good students and some were much less than very good students. Woody used to come up to the floor to visit (and check on his players) there were two players (both defensive stars) that he never bothered with to check on. He knew that they were never in, they spent most of their time at a local campus bar, etc. I won't disclose some the stories that that told; however, needless to say, these 2 were never big on academics, etc. Over the years, there's numerous of examples of football players doing exceptionally well academically. Some players like John Frank and Steve Bellisari eventually graduated from medical school. Craig Krenzel had a GPA close to 4.0 in a very difficult premed curriculum, Dave Foley was a multiple Academic All American in engineering.:biggrin2:, and Mike Lanese was Rhodes Scholar, to name a few.

Oh, I am quite aware of both ends of the spectrum. My reaction, as much as anything, is amazement about Master’s apparent time management skills. I know that it’s clearly possible to be a serious academic and play a varsity sport. We see it frequently. And with the number of kids who stay on campus for summer sessions, it’s increasingly more common to see sub-4 year graduates. That said, there’s certain majors that, per my experience with those in the major, seem less conducive to being a varsity D1 athlete due to nothing more than time commitments. Architecture is one of the top of mind examples.

Hats off to the kid. I know that I’d never have been able to maintain that schedule when I was that age. I wan’t remotely close to having that kind of maturity and discipline.

I remember walking back to North campus dorms from a party in the towers. We passed their old studios and saw them up there working at god knows what hour on a weekend. My friends boosted me up onto the partial roof outside the windows, and I banged on the windows and when one of them opened it up, I offered them a six pack of fire brewed Stroh's.
