OHIO STATE RUNNING BACK MIKE WEBER REVEALS RELATIONSHIP WITH NFL HALL OF FAMER BARRY SANDERS

Mike Weber made the first weekly media appearance of his Ohio State career Monday afternoon at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Surrounded by a throng of reporters, Weber sat in a chair and fielded questions about his running style, former Buckeyes running backs Carlos Hyde and Ezekiel Elliott and all other kinds of topics.

Then, he was asked if he had a favorite running back he liked to watch growing up.

For Weber, a Detroit native, the only possible answer could be Barry Sanders, right?

“Walter Payton,” he said.

Wait, what?

“My dad played running back also so he used to show me his highlights and also Barry Sanders,” Weber continued. “I was more into them type of running backs than the current running backs.”

OK, good. There’s the Sanders mention. Everything is back to normal. Order has been restored.

However, what Weber said next perhaps explains why he didn’t mention Sanders at first. It might just be because he has had a relationship with the former Detroit Lions star and NFL Hall of Famer for quite some time now. There’s a chance he doesn’t view Sanders like the rest of the world does.

The two remain close, Weber said, even to this day.

“ I’m actually really cool with Barry Sanders,” he said. “I’ve played golf with him a couple times.”

“When I was little I played in a little All-American game and I met him. He had spoke to us. I know a lot of people who know him so I met him one time and I talk to him often, almost after every game. He’s a really good guy.”

All the comparisons to Zeke, but Weber is almost nothing like Zeke, IMO. More like Hyde or Clarrett. Weber can certainly break a big run, but that's just not his strength. He is a grinder, who will punch you in the mouth, and consistently fall forward and get positive yards. He's going to get better as the season progresses, and his balance will improve from being tripped up so easily early this season
IMO,his ceiling could be Marshawn Lynch

I know they really like Samuel but man I wish they would give Mikey 15-20 touches per game. He just seems like the guy that will wear a defense out by the 4th quarter.

It's crazy IMO to run Samuel between the tackles when you could be doing it with Weber. I just look at this offense and can't help but think how hard we would be to defend if we motioned Samuel into the backfield and did one of 3 things when Weber/Samuel are both standing on JTs side

1. Run Weber on the dive
2. Run a sweep with Samuel (with a lead block from Weber no less)
3. Lead QB ISO with Barrett

To me taking one out and replacing with the other gives us nothing. It just makes it predictable.

Agreed and they did that in the Oklahoma game. The offense looked amazing with the run & pass threat but it has not been the same since.

True, but it also puts all of our playmakers in one place. That allows teams like Wisconsin and MSU to slant and crash hard at the snap to the QB. Along the way, you'll run to where the ball is going in all of those instances.

Not really... There's threats to go right, left or forward.

Then from there set the triple option up... dive to weber and then the next snap fake the dive and pull it with a option with samuel
