Alright well anyone have anything to say about our RB situation for next season? I was looking at all of our guys that we had and who's coming in (and damn i wanted Gwaltney) and obviously Wells looks pretty good with his speed, but what about Antonio Pittman? He averaged over 5 yards a carry last year as a freshman. I know Ross, Hall, and (Branden) Joe are all leaving. So what, you guys think Pittman has what it takes for the starting job or Wells could take it or some other guy that i havent mentioned?

Haw is the great unknown. I think most folks think that Pittman getting the reps implied he was the better back. However, Pittman came to school early and had a big jump. By the time Haw would have been ready to play it was obvious there were not enough reps to go around and it simply made no sense to take off the RS. Really not much basis to put either of those kids ahead right now.

I also think it is in the back of many minds what happened when we had Ross, Hall and Riley - which is not nearly what we hoped or expected. It is very unfair to project that outcome onto these new guys. Pittman and Haw are in the tradition of many fine backs who have worn the S&G and we have every reason to be optimistic about their development and productivity behind an improving line.

Johnson was another impressive kid. I hope folks realize what it meant for that RS to come off with all the candidates at that position. True Fosh at FB is perhaps more difficult than true Frosh at RB (FBs generally need a RS year to bulk up).

And of course there is Wells. This kid really got the short end of the stick because his commit was immediately overshadowed by the speculation over Gwaltney. OSU wanted him bad and we should be elated to have him.

Gwaltney would have been great - perhaps a minor head case, but one I also wanted. Still, it is speculative to suggest the solution to our RB problems was a true Frosh and discount a RS Frosh and an experienced Soph.

The biggest problem at RB next season will be experience - not talent. Gwaltney would not have solved that problem.

And of course, let us not forget the interesting looks we started getting with Ginn late in the season. This is not likely to be a Woody Hayes power O next year. This could be just the right mix of backs next season.

BTW - anybody know Guillford's status?

wow then if this guy is as good as you guys say he is then we're in good shape. i live down in virginia now so i dont really have that good of sources except for what i get here and a few other sites....

well not only Ginn but Holmes and that Alex Gonzalez kid looks very promising. All i really know is that he had a big TD against michigan and then another against OK state. Also, Troy Smith looks like he can be pretty good along with a few very good O-linemen coming in. maybe our offense will actually score a few TDs this year.... ahhh no more Nugent... that guy was too awesome.

Tony Gonzalez. Not Alex. But yeah. He's gonna be a good one. Wait til Jordan and Lyons see more playing time. We have so much talent right now its almost embarassing.

QB- Zwick, Smith, Boeckman, Schoenhoft
WR- Holmes, Ginn, Hall, Lyons, Jordan, Gonzo, Hartline
RB- Pittman, Haw, Wells, Possibly Russell or Lenix

Haw is the x-factor on this team next year IMO.
His combination of size and pure speed is amazing.
If he has a breakout year we will be a force on offense.
If not, we will have to rely way to much on big plays next year.
I enjoyed, alot actually, the big play offense we showed the last couple weeks of last year,
but with JT as coach, you must be able to grind it out and eat some clock.
If Haw can perform, along with the rest of our running backs, its going to be a great year!

I didn't mean gun-to-your-face jacked. I meant toaster-and-viagra jacked.
