RB TreVeyon Henderson (Official Thread)

College football's most intriguing newcomer for each Way-Too-Early Top 25 team

i

5. Ohio State Buckeyes: RB TreVeyon Henderson

There could be a few answers to this for Ohio State as the staff has the No. 1-ranked prospect overall in defensive end Jack Sawyer, the No. 5 pocket-passing quarterback in Kyle McCord and another great haul at receiver and defensive back. Those would all qualify considering the amount of talent in this class, but running back TreVeyon Henderson has a chance to really help this offense next season. Henderson is the No. 1 running back in the class, a five-star recruit who can do a little bit of everything. With Trey Sermon off to the NFL, Henderson has an opportunity to make an impact in the ground game.

Look at the pictures (above) closely and compare his legs to Evan Pryor's (below):

Just sayin': It sure looks like TreVeyon will have some "leg drive" on 3rd or 4th and goal from the 1. Hope his upper body as muscular as his lower body.

You ain't kidding, he's much bigger than I expected him to be, especially the legs. We all know he's lightning in a bottle but that's a build of a 3-down back. Probably the true freshman I'm most excited to see take the field this year.

The first part of that clip theres an extended version of that run which shows how impressive it was. Treveyon is a different guy with his ability to shake people but he also has very good speed. To top it all off the guy is over 210 pounds now too so running hard isn't an issue either.

I would be shocked if he doesn't take the majority of the reps by mid season.

Now the players are in the midst of a break, and are expected to crank up the offseason workouts with football performance coordinator Mickey Marotti and his staff the middle of May.

“What you’re trying to do during that period is not only get stronger, not only get faster, but you’re trying to get your body, trying to get your mind, trying to get your soul hard enough to be a great practice player every Tuesday, Wednesday [during the season],” Wilson said. “I think TreVeyon, as a young player, he’s going to be a talented enough to have a role. That role will be enhanced for all of these players we’re talking about with the durability, their dependability, if their body holds up.”

Whoa. Back up a couple of sentences. Your soul? That’s a coaching term never heard before.

“To come out there every day with the right kind of spirit to practice,” Wilson said. “You know what I’m saying. You need to always have a good soul. And its not the sole of their feet. They have a great soul internally to get your mind and body hard to play championship football.

Henderson doesn’t fear the competition he stepped into in January when he enrolled with the Buckeyes. He thrives in that competitive environment. And the impending battle to become the starter for Sept. 2 at Minnesota won’t be too much for the 18-year-old superstar.

“I mean, we’re all great running backs,” Henderson said. “We’re competing a lot and making each other better.

“So we’ll see how it all plays out.”
