RB TreVeyon Henderson (Official Thread)

I looked up Reggie Bush's junior stats to just out of curiosity. Scored a td every 13 touches. Henderson is scoring one every 6. (I get the game now is more spread out w/ more scoring, LenDale White got most of the goalline touches, but still...)
(On field) Reggie Bush is a solid comparison. Bush was explosive, fast, elusive and a threat to go the distance everytime he touched the ball. Henderson is exactly that. He seems to be running towards a wall of tacklers, shakes a bit and emerges unscathed running to daylight.

One big difference is Henderson is also 10-15lbs bigger than Bush. Bush was never built to be an every down RB, and White was needed to work with him. Henderson doesn't need Teague and Williams for Goal line or short yardage situations. But it's smart to use them to keep Henderson fresh.

With the talk of Henderson possibly breaking Clarett's TD record, my buddy's and I started talking about who we thought was better. Clarett was my top 3 Buckeye RBs that I've seen in my lifetime(Eddie George and Zeke being my other 2), but watching Henderson this year is something special, and he may be put on that list when all is said and done. These were the stats of them both through 7 games:

Clarett: 170 touches/ 1050 total yards/ 15TDs/ 6.1yds per touch/ played 28QTs

Henderson: 87 touches/ 868 total yards/ 13TDs/ 10yds per touch/ played 16QTs

Clarett was OSU's main offensive weapon and Tressel leaned on him heavily. Different coaches who run different schemes with different weapons. It can be argued that the entire offense around Henderson is better than Clarett's. And Henderson has the luxury of not even playing full halves and not needing to do everything in the offense. But the fact that every time Henderson touches the ball he gets a first down is INSANE! Having that stat is crazy for 3 games, let alone 7. And I know the sentiment will be to play him more, but why? Keep him fresh, and it's not like playing Teague, Williams or Pryor slows the offense down any. This is a great RB in a perfect system for his skills and health.

... It can be argued that the entire offense around Henderson is better than Clarett's. ...

It can also be argued that your assertion is inarguable

The arguable point is whether that point is relevant to the conversation, and I agree with you that it absolutely is.

The Buckeyes just curb-stomped a team while scoring 1 TD in the 3rd and 1 FG in the 4th with, as @LordJeffBuck pointed out, NOBODY having a career day or even “going off” however you may define it.

When a team can do that, there is NOBODY the opponents can focus on and NOBODY at an increased risk for injury.
