It's very uncomfortable in addition to the pain. You literally don't want your shoulder to move at all.
Other than the first of my elbow dislocations I've had, the time I dislocated the SC joint in a car wreck was the most painful.

While the dislocated SC joint he suffered in the national championship game will prevent him from taking the field this week, he'll still have the opportunity to meet with NFL coaches and scouts, and Nagy thought Sermon deserved to be at the Senior Bowl after watching his film from both Ohio State and Oklahoma.
“Sermon’s ultra-talented,” Nagy said. “It was great to see him get his run there late in the year. We didn’t see a different player than we saw last year on Oklahoma tape, he just got an opportunity. So I thought that was maybe the best free-agent signing in college football this year was Ohio State getting Trey Sermon as a grad transfer. Just a really talented guy.”
Just sayin'; It would have been great to see what he could do in the Senior Bowl, and I think a healthy Sermon would have done a lot too.

The terms dislocation and separation are used synonomously and often incorrectly even in the medical field. It's like sprains and strains. You "strain" muscles and "sprain" ligaments but you always hear them used interchangeably, even by Dr.'s when they write a PT script for a quad muscle sprain for example. See it all the time.
The term "dislocation" is used correctly in the shoulder when describing the humeral head (knobby end of the humerus) coming out of the socket (the glenohumeral joint or glenoid fossa).
When discussing the clavicle, when it has sustained enough force to come loose @ the sternoclavicular joint (clavicle and sternum held together by ligaments) or loose from the other end @ the acromioclavicular joint (the acromion process and clavicle are also held together by ligaments), it is called a "separation".
Just like sprains and strains, separations can be classified in terms of grades. Grade I is the least severe and Grade III is most severe. The most serious and higher grade separations with more displacement will often be accompanied by a "dislocation" tag as well.
To be considered a "break" or fracture, the bone would need to break somewhere within the bone. A separation occurs at the attachment sites on either end of the bone where they are attached by ligaments. So technically it's a combination of a sprain, separation and dislocation.......lol.

I definitely want to run a good 40 [yard dash], let them know that I’m still a great receiving back. I can run great routes. I can catch out of the backfield very well. Those are some of the things that I’m excited to show the teams once the pro day comes up.”

I dislocated my shoulder in a winter fall on black ice. Enormous pain that only a trip to the emergency room and a pain shot eliminated. I was in a hallway waiting for help and used every swear word I could think of multiple times. After the pain shot I was taken to a room for work and as soon as I was flipped onto my stomach and the arm went down off the table the arm popped back in. The doctors were slightly disappointed as they were preparing a scale weight to tape to my arm!. I 've had a broken collar bone and that pain doesn't even compare to a dislocation!
Meanwhile, just how good was Sermon?
His single game record yardage(331) was against one of the best run defenses in college football this season! His Clemson game(193) was just as impressive. He was on a roll till the injury.
