RB/WR/DB Demario McCall (Official Thread)

Don't know if I agree with this. Plenty of guys around the country with his physical traits make plays for their teams. If I had to guess the reason he doesn't play is he's not a guy who handles his business in the classroom/ in the weight room/ on the practice field

Maybe.

I think it's more due to the Harvin role being an Urban Meyer offense thing and not a Ryan Day offense thing.

A school with less weapons around him would feature a guy like McCall imo (see Purdue) but given what OSU has at WR and RB it's hard to see how/why they would find yet another set of hands to get the ball into.

Just my .02

Yeah for sure could be an option... that said if he was a total game changer they'd suck it up and play him too.

I can't help but notice how much his OSU career mirrors Dontre Wilson's. Start off like gang busters and show a tremendous amount of promise then an injury, depth chart problems and lack of expected big plays happens.

Some guys just dont pan out due to their location and situation. Some guys find a way. I was hoping he would at least be the return guy we've been needing for a while.

I don’t intend this to be as negative as some may take it. He should’ve entered the portal in the spring and transferred to a program that suits his size and skill set better. The confluence of injuries, being passed by younger teammates, and the change in offensive scheme have made it where he isn’t going to play much for us. If he’d left in the spring, he’d have two years to start somewhere else.

Maybe but at this point I would stay if Dobbins enters the draft.

I still remain very high on McCall. He always produces when he gets the ball in his hands. He is scary out of the backfield on passing plays and has good speed and great moves running the ball. He's not an every down back but can bring a great change of pace. Here's hoping that DeMario has a great Senior season wearing scarlet and gray.
I too am rooting for McCall, but the writing is starting to appear on the wall of what could've been. His sole roll is as KR, and by fall camp, he could be in competition for that with a guy like Jameson Williams or even Mookie Cooper. He can be a change of pace RB, but he has 3 solid RBs in the room already in Teague, Crowley and Chambers, who while seem to have similar skill sets, Day could use a player like Gill, Williams or Wilson to also catch short passes, further pushing McCall down the offense.
He's going to have some hard conversations this off season, IMO, because idk where he fully fits in the offensive scheme and even the ST one.
