Realistically: What can we take from today's game?

I was impressed with the quickness of Pittman hitting the hole, and the fact that he didn't get tackled by the grass....

His leap into the endzone to avoid going out of bounds on the last TD run was pretty funny...

The biggest thing I noticed was the Offensive Line. Was it just me or did it seem like on running plays they didn't use that side step zone block anymore? To me it seemed like they actually drive blocked a few times. Yes it was against Indiana, but that first step going back and to the side was not there.

Also, Dionte Johnson coming in and making a difference. I don't know why but I have seen less of Joe as the FB. Johnson actually stood up the linebacker and that does make a ton of difference.

I have been in Zwick's corner and still think he will eventually be the better QB. But Smith did impress me on his short passing. His long passes left something to be desired but I will leave that to first significant real gameplay and adjusting to game speed over practice speed.

Besides this, I will leave this as being Indiana and will wait to see what happens next week against a real team. But overall I feel this is a good first step and was needed to gain confidence.

It's the first game of the "new" season for me. Hopefully this year will be remembered as the tale of two seasons. I think we can make progress but Pittman definately has to be the man at TB. I think having 2 QBS WILL NOT HELP. The coach has to pick a starter and go with it. We can salvage the season but we need to improve every game.

No it was still zone blocking, the difference was against minimal tallent we correctly executed what I am sure they are attempting to coach. See when you zone block correctly, like (as far as I know) all NFL teams do once you do your 45 degree, and the Dlinemen comes up field you lock on and then drive his but into the ground or to the side line. The drive part of the block is there for either style of blocking, although you would never know it looking at our O-line the last several years. It is not a shield blocking scheme like WR's do, (or it shouldn't be), but it is a scheme where you allow the DL/LB/DB to put themselves into postion to be driven of the whole. Traditional Drive blocking you just fire out and hit your man or anything else that get's in your way.

The O-line played better, and hopefully got some confidence, but once again, remember this is Indiana.
