Does anybody else get the run-around in regards to rebates?

I swear MicroCenter offers rebates with no intention of paying them. I bought some speakers from them a couple of years ago and never received the rebate (I think it was a $50 or $75 rebate... that would cover a night on the town with the guys). The only reason I remember this is because I was cleaning last night and noticed another set of rebates I sent in (the purchase was once again at MicroCenter) in Nov. hadn't been paid yet (and they claim you will get your check within 8 weeks... which would have been a month ago). After reading the fine print I realize the offer/rebate "expires" four months after the rebate window closed... so I decide to call and see what is going on.

I just got off the phone with the rebate center. For starters I was on hold for 25 min. before somebody answered (the call center is offshore, the english was too broken to be here in the states). I was quickly told that I "hadn't signed the rebate form, so it was denied." I told her I had a photo copy of the rebate form and it was indeed signed. I offered to fax her the form... she didn't want the fax, and quickly said the rebate was accepted and a check would be sent out shortly. I asked how short "shortly" would be and she said April 27th...???

At any rate, it was signed and I get the feeling they lump the bulk of the rebates as "denied" and don't send the check unless the customer calls... without any proof that is was signed, she "ok'd" the rebate...

Has anybody else encountered this? Is it common or just typical of MicroCenter...?

I've bought several computers from Dell (for myself and family members) and have had no problems with their rebate center... I'm 0 for 2 in regards to MicroCenter (at least pre-phone call/complaint)...

never with Microcenter, but i got hosed by norton a few years back (said i didnt' include the bar code from the box)

the best i have ever run into was sprint. we bought phones from them, got two 150 rebates within 2 weeks of submitting them, i was very impressed.

actually now that you mention that, we had good luck with rebates regarding Verizon phones we purchased a couple years ago as well... maybe it's just bad luck on my part with MicroCenter... I was ticked about the "didn't sign" comment. There is my name, address, and sig... tough to miss...

The cell companies aren't going to screw you because there is a service contract involved that they don't want to lose... that and there is a straight up free phone if you want to switch.

I bought an external floppy drive from MicroCenter a few years ago that had a $20 rebate from the manufacturer, not MicroCenter. I'd forgotten about it since it was such a small amount and about two months letter I got a letter in the mail that said my request for rebate was denied because it wasn't filled out properly. I also had a copy of the form, receipt, and barcode and called the company up. They had me fax it over and I received my check a week or so later.

Speaking strictly for myself, I have never understood why stores, companies, etc., almost always offer the so-called "mail-in rebate". And as has already been stated they always say allow 8 weeks to receive the check. Why can't they just tack the rebate on to the product right there in the store when I pay for it? They want my money up front and then expect me to wait 8 weeks (if your lucky) to get a check back from them. I don't get excited about the things myself and would have to say that rarely do I ever buy something that falls into that category. Now if it's something I need and they have an instant rebate, I'll go for that. You want your money for your product up front? I want my money from the rebate up front.

skins,

many folks forget to send the rebate in on time... and they claim the info wasn't entered correctly so they don't have to pay... not sure if all the companies are on the up and up in regards to rebates...

As AKAK would say, it's all because of those tricky Canadians... :tongue2:
