Recruiting around the Big Ten

Right, and YOUR argument is "not the point" either, which is the point that the others are making! :wink2: Again, Nebraska has had California recruits in 14 consecutive classes - which would seem to be pretty impossible if YOUR point was THE point. Kyle's point that your point is not the point is really much more the point. :tongue2:

Good point!

Respectfully disagree with Kyle and DallasHusker. I prognosticate that Nebraska will recruit Texas with MORE success than currently. Never forget that Nebraska 'traded up' with them joining the B10. We enjoy being telecast to over 60% of the US population (mas o menos) every week. The B12 basically gets to Texas and Oklahoma, which is a far cry from B10 exposure.

Smart kids will realize this, and it should increase their chances to be noticed by scouts. TAMU has already experienced the SEC impact exposure and had a bang-up recruiting class, and I will watch to see if this continues. Sure, the UT network will compete, but who will tune in? I hate sharing the B10 network with everyone else, but wouldn't want OSU to pay 100% of the freight, right? Texas is in that boat. We'll see how long they can endure alone.

I realize this missive is a balloon that everyone can throw darts at, but kinda figure that my crystal ball can see as well or better than everyone elses', so that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I know someone will keep track and toss it back as a quote one fine day, so looking forward to it....vbet anyone?

Despite the unfair media attacks that killed JoePa, Penn State has once again outclassed the rest of the Big Ten in recruiting. Paterno's legacy built a pipeline that will last a long, long time.

Clearly, almost receiving the Death Penalty from the NCAA adversely affected Urban Meyer's ability draw enough quality recruits to Columbus. The best players he got were guys PSU had but decided they didn't want after even better recruits signed on to come to Happy Valley. Still, the Buckeyes should contend for second in the division with some good kids.

Just be glad the Fighting Irish aren't in the Big Ten. Kelly is loaded.

No, I actually agree with that 100%. Kids are a lot more interested in a team that has some regional tie through their conference.

You think Marcus committed to us because he wanted to play in the Midwest? Or any of the dozens of Florida and Georgia kids we've had over the last decade? No.

Texas high schools have major college from all over the country recruiting their players. Nebraska isn't going to quit dipping into that talent pool just because they're now mainly playing teams to the east of them instead of team to the south of them. Even UFM said in his presser than after Ohio being his #1 recruiting priority, he'll focus the southeast and the east coast. Last time I checked, the B1G had no team from those regions.

I gotta say though, I really am surprised by just how true the "Big 2, Little 10" is in this year's recruiting. I figured with Nebraska making the shift and Wisconsin's recent successes, they'd be forces to be reckoned with on the recruiting trail. Count me on the side of the fence that would prefer to see highly touted kids pouring into the Big Ten, even if they aren't going to Ohio State. The better our week in and week out competition is, the better we'll be as a team.

Is that really disagreeing with Kyle & DH?

Thanks, Muck! No, its not. :) I totally agree with the (new) point he's made. I live in a suburb of Dallas, obviously in the HEART of Big XII country. In past years when we were in the Big XII, there was no way to watch all of Nebraska's football games without paying $40 for pay-per-view for several games each year. This year, with the BTN, every single Nebraska game was available to me as part of my basic cable package including BTN, even though I live far outside of the B1G footprint! That's definitely a NEW selling point Nebraska can make to recruits and their families.

Sparty, Nebbie & especially Wiscy all had smaller classes but all three brought in some solid players.

I don't think its quite so "Big 2, Little 10" as you're claiming. Nebraska had a very low class size this year, due to having a very small senior class. We managed to end up #24 in Rivals rankings and #27 in 247sports (Scouts seems clueless lately in recruiting) even though our class size was only 17. Contrast that with the 25 class size of both tOSU and TSUN. Of the 23 teams above us in Rivals rankings, only 3 of them had equal or smaller class sizes than ours. Had we had room for a class of 25, I think we'd be right up there vying with the "Big 2" this year.
