    *Invites bode well for Jayhawks

E.J. Biggers, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound cornerback/athlete, gave his pledge to KU assistants Tyrone Dixon and Dave Doeren on Thursday, according to rivals.com. Biggers is the 22nd known commitment for the 2005 football season.

"He's the kind of kid you want on offense and defense," Jeff Bertani, Biggers' high school coach at North Miami Beach, told rivals. "He's one of the most fierce competitors I've seen."

Biggers picked KU over Iowa, Penn State and Western Michigan.

National signing day is Feb. 2.

A week after three recruits backed out of their oral commitments, the Kansas football team received some good news Friday when the top high school player in all of Miami pledged to sign with the Jayhawks.

Defensive back E.J. Biggers may be a bit undersized at 5 feet 10 and 159 pounds, but he was chosen the Dade County Player of the Year and did enough on the football field to attract offers from schools such as Iowa and Ohio State.

Biggers made eight interceptions in 2004 and 16 during his career at North Miami Beach High School.

“He's one of the most fierce competitors I've ever seen,” Biggers' coach, Jeff Bertani, told rivals.com.

Wilson Down To Two Schools - Scout

    Wilson Down To Two Schools
    By Duane Long
    Date: Jan 22, 2005

It won't be much longer before defensive end Lawrence Wilson of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary makes a final college decision. Duane Long talked to Lawrence and his father to find out the final two schools.

Defensive end Lawrence Wilson of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary is down to two schools. There was a rumor that circulated that he had decided on Notre Dame, but that does not appear to be true.

"There is no truth to the rumor that he's recommitted to Notre Dame," said Wilson's father. "No truth whatsoever. He's down to Ohio State and Notre Dame. He'll make a decision next week, likely late in the week."

The Wilsons enjoyed their visit to Florida, but distance eliminated the Gators.

"Florida was really nice, but it's too far away," Wilson's father said. "I've been watching my son play all his life. I'm not going to stop now."

Lawrence flatly denied making a commitment.

"No, I have not committed to anybody," he said. "I don't know where that came from. I'll be making a decision later in the week."

Michigan was previously on Wilson's visit list, but the Wolverines appear to have run out of scholarship spots.

"It just wasn't going to work out," Lawrence said. "That visit is cancelled and I'm not going to make it up."*

Every year, Cleveland Glenville has a handful of players that sign Division I scholarships. Next year, the Tarblooders are heavy with talent once again, and one of the best will be DE/LB Robert Rose. Rose put in one of the best overall performances at the national junior combine last week and proved to everyone - including himself - that he could be headed toward being a big-time recruit this year.
