Freel arrested Monday night in Kentucky
Associated Press [04/05/05]

Utility player Ryan Freel was charged with drunken driving hours after the Reds beat the New York Mets 7-6 in their season opener.

Police arrested Freel on Monday night in Bellevue, Kentucky, a community across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. He was charged with drunken driving, careless driving and having an open container in a motor vehicle.

He was released about 3 a.m. Tuesday from the Campbell County Jail in Newport after a $500 bond was posted for him, jail authorities said. Freel is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday morning.

Reds spokesman Rob Butcher said the team had no comment on Freel's arrest.

Any player who dives into the stands and kicks elderly old Dodgers fans in the head is a great player in my book. :wink2:

I'm disappointed with this report. I enjoyed watching Freel play last season after injuries took out Larkin, Kearns, then Griffey (aside from the Reds never having a good 3B to begin with).

Apparently, there was a bit of celebrating going on in the Reds' clubhouse last night after Randa's walk-off homer.

In a related side note to the previous side note, JJ Sullinger announced he is transferring to UC to play for Huggins.

No word yet on remaining eligibility for Greg Simpson, Killer Macon, and Gearald Eakers.
