Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

I just hope we make a move on Robb Nen, Chuck Finley, Todd Stottlemyre John Smiley or another veteran pitcher up to Dusty's standards. Travis Fryman and Chuck Knoblauch would shore up infield depth and Harold Baines would give us an excellent backup outfielder and pinch hitter.

I would take Dibble over Nen any day.

Francisco Cordero

CINCINNATI -- Reds manager Dusty Baker was home hanging Christmas ornaments yesterday when general manager Wayne Krivsky handed him an expensive bauble: Francisco Cordero, who will be paid $46 million to close games for the Reds for the next four years.
"Hopefully, we have enough left to fill in the other holes we have," Baker said.

Friday, November 30, 2007 4:21 AM
By Michael S. Schmidt

THE NEW YORK TIMES

Four times during the past year and a half, including once in the past week, investigators for George J. Mitchell have interviewed a former major-league baseball trainer in the hopes of learning the names of players who used banned performance-enhancing substances.
Larry Starr, who was the head trainer for the Cincinnati Reds from 1972 to 1992 and for the Florida Marlins from 1993 to 2002, said Wednesday that he shared with investigators his perspective and knowledge on the use of performance-enhancing drugs but would not divulge the names of any players he knew who took such substances.

The Reds have signed Jim Brower. The rotation is starting to get settled.

I saw Krivsky get interviewed at Redsfest on Friday. He was pretty straight forward in acknowledging they need to bolster the rotation. He admitted that they don't have 5 strong and he is going to do something about it. What he can do is another question... but at least he was clear that something is going to be done before spring training.

Well he only gave away two young everyday players when trying to fix the pen so maybe he'll give away three to try and fix the rotation.

Driving home from work today I heard the list of mostly former Reds players named in the Mitchell Report for using performance enhancing drugs:

Mike Stanton
Kent Mercker
Ricky Stone
Josias Manzanillo
Denny Neagle
Scott Schoeneweis
Ryan Franklin
Todd Williams
Ron Villone
Hal Morris
Benito Santiago

Somebody owes these guys a fucking refund. Performance enhancing my ass. About the only performance that was enhanced for that group was the performance of Mike Stanton's beer gut.

Only the Reds could have 14-15% of the whole damn list and everyone of them was a dud even onsteroids. This is the kind of shit you just have to laugh at to keep from crying.

WTF did we ever do as fans to deserve an organization like this?
