Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

The Reds are done for the year. In the month of August so far they are 6-7 all against clubs with losing records. If they were going to show that they are in contention for the division, they needed to be at least 7 games back at this point and 5 back by the end of the month. If the play at the beginning of the month is any indication of how they are going to play at the end of the month, I don't see that happening.

They need to start looking towards 2012 and start Alonso every day. Get him in left field every day with the plan of him being the everyday leftfielder next year. If not, why is he with the big league club now and not in the minors getting ABs?

Dusty has declared the Alonso in LF experiment to be over.

Dusty needs to go away. Give Billy Hatcher the job.

Hell yes to the first part, hell no to the second. They need ot go outside of the organzation and pull in somebody from a non-dysfunctional franchise. I don't want somebody who has been sitting at Dusty's right hand all this time. I don't want somebody who has been working his way up the Reds' farm system. I don't want an out-of-work retread.

We have been hit or miss with out-of-work retreads. We have had success with Lou Piniella, Davey Johnson and Jack McKeon. We have not with Bob Boone and, so far, only one good year with Dusty Baker.

I'm referring to their hiring track record post-Johnson. Piniella hardly qualified as a retread at the time he came to Cincinnati - he was just another guy who got jerked around by King George in the '80s.

He has a .227 BABIP and stranded 76.5% of runners on base.

Its mostly luck.

As far as Votto goes, people should get used to the thought of him being traded. Probably this winter. Then again with this sorry ass front office they'll likely let him go for nothing but the draft picks and use the money saved to extend Arroyo further.

My .02 is flip him this winter for a big time MLB proven LF bat or SP, move Alonzo to first and reboot. The window was open to win with Votto as a Red this year. They shat upon themselves. Window is now closed. Thanks for the effort Joey, now go get paid.

I would rather keep Votto and trade Alonzo. Whoever we trade, Votto or Alonzo, we need to get a leadoff hitter that can get on base and steal bases. Who have we had at the leadoff spot? Sappelt, Lewis and Stubbs. All of them batting under .250. Not good for a leadoff hitter.
