Reds Tidbits (2013 Season)

"Maybe it's something I said, maybe something I didn't say along the way," Baker said. "I know I had a conversation with Walt that they were going to look to replace (hitting coach) Brook Jacoby, and I was like, 'Oh, no, Brook's not doing anything as one of my coaches that deserved that.' It wasn't an ultimatum, but I just said, `Hey, man, if we get rid of Brook, you might as well get rid of me, too.'

"The next thing I was called up to the office," Baker continued. "I thought I was going to discuss Brook's future and the rest of the coaches' future, and I was told my services were no longer needed."

Happiest fucking day since the Buckeyes won the title over Cryami. I can barely contain myself.

The Orioles will trade you Buck Showalter (he's only good for 3 years usually) for Jonny Cueto straight up. Deal?

All quiet on the Reds manager front

Things have been pretty quiet on the search. That’s exactly how Walt Jocketty likes it. The only two candidates that Jocketty has confirmed are pitching coach Bryan Price and Triple-A manager Jim Riggleman.Someone from the Reds did contact Paul O’Neill, but it wasn’t Jocketty or owner Bob Castellini. At this point, O’Neill isn’t a serious candidate.

I've always assumed it will be Price and I am fine with that.

My concern is more with Walt staying awake long enough to remake this roster. We need less left handed, limp wristed fruit cups and more marbles.

I just want a manager who doesn't throw away outs, understands how to put together a lineup together and can use a bullpen with a little creativity re: the roles of the pitchers. Is that really so hard? It's amazing to me how bad most baseball managers are considering how simple the job is.

And re: trading Brandon Phillips, I really hope the aren't trading him b/c of his "attitude." I am guessing they are really trading him to get out from under his contract. Phillips isn't the problem on the field, though. If they trade him b/c of money and also don't sign Choo b/c of money I am going to be pretty pissed. But hey, at least we have almost $15 million invested in Marshall and Broxton next year.

The Reds will name pitching coach Bryan Price their new manager on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com has confirmed. Paul Daugherty of the Cincinnati Enquirer first reported the news and says a press conference is scheduled.

Price, 51, has served as the team's pitching coach under Dusty Baker since the 2010 season. He had previously coached with the Mariners and Diamondbacks. Price does not have any managerial experience at the MLB level.
