Reverend Dabo Swinney (HC Clemson Tigers - GSCS), random mid-century cars, and steroids

Dabo Swinney promises an epic party if the Tigers can reach the College Football Playoff. It would be a big undertaking for Clemson -- and for Clemson’s pizzerias.

Never let it be said Dabo Swinney isn't a generous guy.

In an effort to shrug off the significance of the first rankings released by the College Football Playoff committee -- rankings topped, it turns out, by Clemson -- Swinney promised the Tigers' supporters a pizza party at year's end if his team makes the playoff.

“I promise you we will have the biggest poll party you've ever seen,” Swinney said. “We'll open up Death Valley and serve pizza to everybody on December 6th. That will be a time to celebrate a poll.”

That's a hefty offer, of course. After all, feeding 81,500 hungry fans is no easy task. At an average of eight slices per pie, that's about 10,188 pizzas if everyone only gets one slice.

Dabo Swinney: ‘You don’t ever say never’ when it comes to ‘Bama job

496144824-e1447977225361.jpg

There’s a fairly well-known school of thought around college football circles that, when Nick Saban decides to hang up his coaching whistle for good — or head off to right his NFL wrongs, as the current rumor du jour goes — the first coach Alabama will target in finding a replacement is Dabo Swinney. And, for once, the dot-connecting would make absolute sense.

A native of Birmingham, Swinney was a wide receiver for ‘Bama in the early nineties. After his playing career ended, he embarked on a coaching career with the Tide, first as a grad assistant and then as wide receivers coach before leaving for Clemson in 2003 and, ultimately, the head coach of the Tigers.

Add in the fact that Swinney is a highly successful coach — 71-26 in seven-plus seasons — and Swinney would be a no-brainer as a candidate based on his current résumé and pedigree. In a profile on CBSSports.com, Swinney did little to stem the talk. In fact, in some people’s minds, he fanned the flames when asked about the possibility of returning to his school if the opportunity ever arose.

“You don’t ever say never. You don’t ever know what the circumstances would be at any given time,” Swinney was quoted as saying. “First of all, Alabama may never, ever call me and I would never have a problem with that. They’ve got to do what they’ve got to do. My deal is to be great where I’m at. I had opportunities to leave Alabama. I had opportunities to leave Clemson. But I’ve just never been that guy about the next job. I’m about the job I’ve got.”

Coming off a run through an undefeated regular season and trip to the College Football Playoff national championship game, Clemson has rewarded head coach Dabo Swinney with a brand new contract that will bump the Tigers head coach into the top 10 coaching salaries. Reports Tuesday morning say Clemson’s board of trustees have agreed to a new six-year contract valued at a total of $30.75 million, which averages out to $5.125 million per year.

DABO SWINNEY ON THE PLAYOFFS: ‘I THINK THE BCS GOT IT RIGHT‘

78584_h.jpg,qitok=kjI0E2If.pagespeed.ce.UP3gVbJayP.jpg

College football killed off the Bowl Championship Series, the mysterious group of computers used in ancient times to decipher the top two teams in America at the end of the regular season, in 2014—and not a moment too soon.

Two years later and on the verge of a third playoff, the country is in tact as Americans still watch regular season football. Even Bill Hancock, who once penned a USA TODAY op-ed defending the BCS, now overlords over the system he said would ruin the sport.

But it turns out there is at least one person who yearns for "the way things used to be," and that man's name is Dabo Swinney.

Would getting jumped over by a non-conference champion like Ohio State have swayed his opinion? We will never know.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson staff earn nearly $3 million in bonuses in run to national title

According to the Associated Press, Dabo Swinney and his staff earned over $2.8 million in bonuses according to figures obtained provided by the school. Those bonuses include the ACC championship as well as the College Football Playoff championship game win over Alabama.

Swinney accounted for more than half of that total, with the head coach’s contract calling for $1.45 million in bonuses. Others on Swinney’s staff won’t go away empty-handed, though.

So what's with the hard on Clemson has for us? First Dabo publicly saying after the NC that not everyone likes to be yelled at and degraded (insinuating we do that), then publicly saying he knew we sucked, and now the band spelling 31-0?

I think it's because they have beat us twice now in the past 5 years and we still own recruiting. They can't beat us with recruiting even with their success and it angers them.

They know we are wrecking their chances for a future due to us out recruiting them and they're frustrated by that
