2020 Rivals/247/etc. National & Regional Rankings

He cares way too much

Eh, I feel like some of this stuff matters in terms of perception. We’ve seen year after year that teams can get hot on the recruiting trail through peer-to-peer group texting. And it’s the top ranked players who draw the most clout among other recruits. So it does help to have higher ranked players who also recruit.

clickbait to sell subs...
Most of the CFB fanatics are in the southeast. Tell them what they like and they are more likely to buy a sub. ESPN on the other hand is a little more diabolical, just trying to make their teams look better to attract more recruits. Best want to play with the best. It's a shame when those covering it put money over anything else.
BUT the good thing is it's only college football. Relax, enjoy the games, and go bucks.

Good read and listen. Interesting to hear the transparency on how the rankings are composed and the final deliberations of going back and forth on where guys belong on their final rankings that are due to come out tomorrow.

It's interesting to me how much of it is based off of potential NFL projections (ceilings/floors) and not how they project as college players and how each position is weighted/viewed differently based on draft importance. As far as Buckeyes go:

Flemming is currently #3, in their rankings. I see I slight drop coming bc of the way they were talking about others moving up around him and less importance and lack of high draft potential of WR's. Last 2 drafts, 1st WR's went #25 overall in '19 and #24 overall in '18. Still expect a top10 finish in the rankings. I see Paris getting passed up by a few others too, dropping him just outside the top 10. I see JSN maintaining his 5* (top 32) status based off his recent jump up and his dominance over all competition and great Sr. year. Gee and Stroud are the only other 2 Buckeye commits that I could see finishing in the top 50 if they shuffle a few things around.

I also found the sneak peak into their deliberations over Zach Evan's off field issues to be very interesting and how it should impact his overall ranking. Expecting a big drop (currently #11) and for Evan's to lose his 5* status and be just outside their top 32 5 stars, probably at #33-35 come tomorrow when their final rankings are unveiled.

Signing 247’s #1 and #2 WR in the same class is pretty good, right?

247 final rankings:

4. Fleming
8. Johnson
15. Smith-Njigba
29. Stroud
37. Scott Jr.
97. Simon
147. Wypler
149. Watts
150. Ransom
166. Cooper
182. Melton
209. Royer
240. Williams

Nice bumps for Stroud and Gee Scott Jr. Stroud went from unknown to top 30 in a matter of months after The Opening. Hope he's the real deal and him and Miller can both come in and compete for QB1 in year 2.

E!spn's recruiting service is seen as a total joke at this point and I think everybody knows it. They don't have the staff to properly evaluate talent and don't seem to follow-up much as time goes on. They should just cut the whole department because nobody gives a dookie about their rankings. I wouldn't worry about what e!spn is saying in terms of perception.

And yet they reference their rankings when discussing players once the start playing in college.
