Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

The rich get richer: SEC dominates Rivals100 recruiting rankings

We’re still over two weeks from signing day, and there are still plenty of players yet to commit and others who will flip their existing verbal commits to other schools.
But there won’t be enough movement to dethrone the SEC from reigning over another set of recruiting rankings. A popping 38 players have verbally committed to SEC schools on the Rivals100 released Monday, far outpacing any other conference. Here’s the breakdown:

SEC: 38
ACC: 12
Big Ten: 12
Pac 12: 9Big 12: 5
Notre Dame: 4
Mountain West: 1
Uncommitted: 19

Ohio State makes up for 75 percent of the Big Ten’s commits on here, while it’s surprising to see the Pac 12 faring so poorly (though coaching changes at USC and Washington likely dinged their showing).

Clemson and FSU really carrying the ACC, and will keep them afloat. I thought for the last 3-4 years that the ACC was going to collapse as far as football goes, but I think those two schools are keeping it going. On the other side it looks like the Big 12, with a few traditional powers, has been tanking of late. Reaching for teams like WVa and TCU to join, while the 'powers' can't recruit. I don't know if the Big 12 will last, they could have really turned the tables on the ACC had they pushed harder for FSU. But, in my mind one conference has to go down, 4 is the ideal number, and it's looking like the Big 12 is on the chopping block. Anything like a Texas/Kansas move to the Big Ten would be the final steak in the heart.
The Pac-12 teams have more talent that it appears. There is as much talent out west to hold up those schools, the recruiting gurus are just spending more time in the southeast giving them higher star ratings. There are a lot of 3* guys in cali that would be 4* guys if they played in Florida, Georgia or Texas. Plus their talent is spread out, very much unlike the Big Ten where OSU carries everyone.

Good Lord, aside from us, the B1G is really sucking hard this year. In Rivals rankings, we're #2 in overall team rankings. The next highest B1G team? PedState at #24. The next three are scUM, MSU, and Wiscy at #27-#29. Scout isn't much better...while we're #3, only two other B1G teams are in the top 25 (scUM at #22 and Wiscy at #23).

Still better than the big 12. and not really worse than the pac. The fact that teams like UNC and vaTech recruiting better than ttun, MSU, Nebraska, Wisky is shameful.

Not really there's far more talent in VA and NC then michigan, nebraska, or Wisconsin. Elijah hood and nick Chubb were 2 of the best RBs in the class sitting in UNCs backyard for example. Heck, uva didnt even need to leave the state to land blanding and brown

I also forgot to mention, that in those 247sports rankings for WR, they failed to include Curtis Samuel and noah brown! With Parrish Campbell (who imo will be a RB), terry mclaurin and Johnnie dixon alone we have the 3rd best incoming WR class in the country! Noah and curtis will have every opportunity in the passing game, and I have no doubt they'll be successful in different facets of the offense. Brown more on the outside and samuel in the slot, special teams and out of the backfield

247 also forgot to mention Malik Hooker in their DB rankings, yet OSU is still the top class. Very impressive, and much needed as it provides coach Ash and Coombs with more weapons.

Here is a comparison:
Rivals Rankings
Big 12
5*: 1
4*: 25
3*: 132
Under 3*: 61

Pac 12
5*: 0
4*: 47
3*: 165
Under 3*: 19

Big Ten
5*: 2
4*: 47
3*: 134
Under 3*: 46

Looks like the Big Ten has a heck of a lead over the Big 12. Plus the Big 12 is essentially done recruiting. Texas and Oklahoma could each pick up another couple of recruits, but the only other teams that look like they are still recruiting are those in the bottom half.

Similarly the Big Ten still has teams such as MSU and Nebraska trying to pull in a few more guys. They both have the capability to pull in a couple 4* guys. We also have Michigan and Northwestern looking to fill quite a few more spots. I don't expect them to pull in top guys, UM has the ability to pull in 4* recruits, although I think Hoke may have decided to cut his losses and take a 2 month vacation after the bowl game.

The Pac looks about even with the Big Ten right now. 3 of their big name programs look to still be looking for some spots. Oregon only has 16 now, and it looks like the post Chip Kelly falloff has begun. They could pull in some 4* guys, but I don't expect much from them anymore. UCLA is sitting at 17, and will probably pull in some blue chip recruits. Stanford is also sitting at 16 and they always recruit late due to the academics. I expect them to pull in quite a few top guys. The Pac will have us nicely beat in the end, but not by as much as the talking heads would like to think.

If you want to say OSU is propping up the Big Ten, you may be right, but lets look at the numbers:

Big Ten-OSU:
5*: 1
4*: 32
3*: 128
Under 3*: 46

Still a tad better than Big 12. Says a lot about the Big 12, it's like the Big Ten without OSU.
