2018 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

As a recruitnik, I look at wonderment at the recruits that are labeled (by BP, BN, Lof10, etc) as 'raw', plenty of potential, etc etc. Can anyone help me noodle out why UFM & co can afford to 'grow' some kids, rather than take the mature performers? Now, I know the arguments of 'high ceiling', frame that will fill out, etc etc, but with the increasing amounts of holes in the team due to early entry, tOSU is forced to rush into action some young men that could stand to be seasoned a bit more. For me, it's kind of a conundrum. Actually, am answering my own question, but would like some other takes......AND, it's nice to see tOSU recruits actually ascending the ladder (in recruiting speak), rather than descending, just because they verbaled to tOSU.......life does go in cycles doesn't it?

GO BUCKS!

I think it comes down to the staff's ability to recognize the probability that the kid will grow to reach the high ceiling. That's where I think this staff has separated itself from the previous. There were plenty of reaches taken by JT that never panned out. With the current staff we have Malik Hooker. Not to suggest that there aren't some misses here and there, but the odds that a project pans out given this staff makes the offer seems to be pretty high.

Maybe it comes down to the staff considering the probability of reaching the high ceiling as a function of potential in conjunction with the player's willingness to choke you over a game of checkers.

Recruits that are not raw are rare. There are very few Jeffrey Okudahs out there, and even he has much to learn.

Virtually every OL out there is raw.

The flip side of it is taking a really polished kid that might be closer to his ceiling. He looks good now but will he keep improving or get lapped by the raw alternatives heading to your future opponents ?

OHIO STATE BACK ATOP 2018 BIG TEN RECRUITING RANKINGS AFTER DALLAS GANT COMMITMENT

Ohio State is proving once again that is is quality over quantity on the recruiting trail.

Four-star outside linebacker Dallas Gant from Toledo St. John's Jesuit High School announced his commitment to Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes on Tuesday afternoon. He not only gives Bill Davis his first commitment as linebackers coach but it also pushed Ohio State past Penn State and back atop the Big Ten recruiting rankings for the class of 2018, according to 247Sports.

Re: National Rankings

#48 Alabama (i.e. 3 with 4-star recruits) hasn't hit the "home stretch" yet.

I would argue the only programs recruiting on OSU's level right now are Alabama and Clemson. FSU and USC are in contention for the top tier as well.

And PSU has a tenuous grasp on their top QB commit at the moment, FWIW.
I think FSU will be up there fairly soon. Fisher has found an in, in GA as well and is securing some serious talent to go with the kids they usually get in FL. Miami has a nice push right now with Richt locking down South FL talent, but I'm wondering how long it'll last once the season starts

I think you could see an exodus of Miami commits once the season starts. I think you'll also see the usual number of Kentucky commits looking around. Michigan and Alabama have started off slow, but that'll change in a hurry and they'll be able to pick up some late-bloomers too.
