Rivals/Scout Memberships - Worth It?

timBUCK2

Tim the Enchanter... WOLVERINE SLAYER!!
Are the Rivals and Scout memberships worth the subscription fees.

I'm trying to assess the value of what I would use on the services:

1) Prospect Videos - I'm sure I would enjoy these, but does either site get the nod (better quality, more timely, videos of more players or more videos of each player, etc)

2) Premium Articles - Seems like BN does a much better job of sharing the news. I usually enjoy the reads, but then I also get to see some of it for free... Are the Rivals premium articles written well, timely and mote accurate than the BN premium articles?

3) Premium Boards - Either site have better posters or more "in the know" recruitniks?

4) Distinguishing Services - BN comes with what seems to be a pretty nice Magazine subscription. Rivals can be accessed from my Verizon phone for free - even the premiums. Anyone have any opinions on either (or both) of these services relative to each other?

Let me know if you guys have a preference and why (let me know if I'm missing anything besides these 4). I'd also consider subscribing to both if there's not a whole lot of overlapping service.

Thanks for your help!

Both seem great-- I've been on both a few times and even the free stuff was good. Can't go wrong either way. The bonus for Rivals looks amazing. $40 value, so they say. :)

I personally don't have it but I'm looking into it now.

the info hits the free boards within min. of posting on the premium boards... I had the membership for a couple years, I finally dumped it due to the fact I didn't check the boards out too often, I found out what I needed to know on this board...

I don't think this is the case as often anymore (prem board content doesn't get passed along)... tho our guys have their own sources which often hit the board quickly.

Rivals has the videos, profiles and better rankings... but most prospects have videos on scout or sunshine preps.

Scout has better content, and a lot better "insiders", from what I understand.

Not that this post will have anything to do with the difference between Scout or Rivals....

I just don't see the point in paying any money for "inside" access to highly speculative information. I mean, do what you want with your money... But, suppose recruit A says in a premium article "I'm leaning towards OSU" and this information doens't hit the free boards for 2 months... so what? Is it worth $100.00 to know some kid said something?

I guess more of what my stance is on this - and at the risk of making some recruitnicks here uncomfortable (which is not my objective) the whole idea of Recruiting service subscriptions purpetuates a beast which is - in MY view - harmful to the kids. That is, we have people out there pimping kids to make a buck and I - along with being willing to wait for intel - refuse to support such an industry.

Agree 110%. That deserves a GPA.

Going to have to disagree with you on this one. Do they cause harm to kids, in the sense that they are being overexposed to the entire world despite their youth, yes, but it's something they need to get used to, especially if they are going to be a college football player at the likes of OSU. Not to mention this site I doubt could exist (to the same extent) without the other-sites.
Plus it's not all bad, the sites in addition to the evil have made it much more possible for athletes to get their name known to schools across the entire nation.

Valid observation(s), particularly about dealing with exposure. I suppose I should also admit that BP would probably not be what it is without an interest in recruiting. But, fact is, there are people out there who are exploiting these kids plain and simple. A certain set of gnus come to mind as a prime example of what I'm driving at.

I have em both...pay for my Scout and have a comped Rivals account. I enjoy recruiting and like to follow it nationally so it is worth the investment to me. I guess you have to gauge your own interest level and go from there. The info is usually available soon after, but the discussions on the premium boards (nationally and locally) are interesting to read and the films are excellent.

If you are buying one, go with Rivals for national recruiting or Scout if tOSU is all you are interested in covering. Just my opinion bro.

Thanks for the feedback! tOSU is the only school I really care about in NCAA enough to pay for info, so I'm swinging towards Scout w/o Rivals at this point.

I do hope to hear from someone who's used Rivals on Verizon MobileWeb 2.0. If it actually works well, it'd probably be great for filling in the dead time in the day.

I'm pretty sure that Scout doesn't have that sort of package, but if they did this would be a pretty simple decision. :)
