Robert Smith on Mike & Mike

bkochmc

Assistant Coach
Another Buckeye calling into a talk show to share his opinion on the situation...

* MoC shows lack of integrity, opposite is happening what MoC wants to happen (show GM's he's not a "bad guy")
* Was never offered illegal benefits, bought his first car 5 months before he was drafted w/ his own money
* Thinks a new investigation will most likely occur at OSU, especially since MoC named names (eg. Dick Tressel)... did not comment on how he thinks it will turn out
* Said he can sympathize w/MoC from the stance that he was out of football for a year while at OSU and had to explain himself all the time why he was out, yet at the same time the best thing for MoC would be for him to shut his mouth since he is only hurting himself w/his comments
* Doesn't think MoC has the explosive, break-away speed that most pro backs have

BTW, it is awesome to see all these former players stepping up and definding the university's integrity

I would like to know if Kirk Herbstriet or ex-coach Earle Bruce have offered any comments in regards to Claretts latest escapade. I haven't heard or seen anything yet. I know Herbstriet is up in Columbus with a radio show and Bruce maybe still down in Tampa where he is living. Just wondering.

Earle is on the anti OSU radio station here in Columbus (610 AM). Doubt he would have anything positive to say.

Herbstreit is employed by ESPN so I imagine he would be wise to keep his distance from this story since, really, it is indefensible. ESPN screwed the pooch on this one.

I caught most of what Spielman had to say, and it was all good. He didn't really address MoC directly, just said that throughout his experience, he's never seen or heard of anything like this, and that there is no way in hell that Tressel did anything MoC is accusing him of doing.

The thing about all these OSU players coming out to say "I was never offered improper benefits" is that it doesn't necessarily prove or even suggest that MoC wasn't offered or accepted them. My reasoning is that a standup guy like Robert Smith, Craig Krenzel, or Mike Doss would never go seeking such benefits. A guy like MoC who clearly has a sense of entitlement to whatever he feels like having will be the same guy who goes looking for it. I have no doubt that if a star player goes looking for benefits from a booster that he'll have no problems finding them.

yes but these players are also saying they have never heard of this going on. they might not be the kind of kids to go looking for handouts from boosters, but they know whats going on with the other players.

I heard Herbie the other day say that he didn't believe the charges at all.
I hope that when this subject comes up on Gameday this Saturday that Herbie not only says this, but really drives home what this whole charade is all about. This is tough for him since he works for the company, but how much shit can you hear about your alma mater, before fighting back.
