Just a personal story I have about Shooter...
I was in Des Moines at an Iowa Cubs game a few years back when Beck was trying to make a comeback. Rod came on in the 9th to get the save in the game. After the game, my Dad and I were walking to our car and passed a big RV parked outside the RF fence. When passing, we saw a large man stirring a pot of chili and drinking a beer. It was Rod Beck... Come to find out that he had driven his RV from his home to Iowa to live in while trying to make his comeback for the Cubs. He invited us along with several other fans walking by to join him for a brew and a bowl of chili. We had a blast. He was so down to earth and personable. Come to find out this was a regular occurrence after Iowa home games. I know a lot of Cubs fans in Des Moines will be saddened to hear this news...
