Roehlisberger and the Buckeyes

Conley, in one of his chats, stated Ben told the staff he didn't think he was good enough to be the QB at OSU. Talk about the worst case of self doubt.

I don't think it's fair to dismiss the level of competition in the MAC. Miami may have more talent than most teams they play but so do we and they played in a lot less nail biters.

They also rolled up Northwestern and BG (twice) by a larger margin than we did in 2004.

Big Ben would have won two national championships with Ohio State, 2002 and 2003. He is a Krenzel + throwing the ball down the field. If you think he doesn't have leadership abitlties, read the press transcripts from after the AFC championship game just in case you missed it. Big Ben is just as good as Krenzel in terms of running ability. When Krenzel ran, he ran. When Big Ben runs, he looks to pass first then run. The 2002 and 2003 teams would have had more big plays no question about it. If you don't think this would have helped our offensive scheme, you are crazy. Tressel-ball would have been more of force in 2003. Less close games, means a less fatigued Ohio State team going up against Michigan in the Big House. In 2003, Ohio State would have passed more with Ben to get the lead, then run the ball to run the clock out. That was the Steelers philosphy until Sunday when Cowher decided to go to his typical conservative gameplan in a AFC championship game.

There is no way we would have won a NC in 2003... not even with Ben. We did not that year due to our running game. No matter who you would stick behind center, we lost due to an inconsistent running attack with an OL that struggled most of the year.

Now.. if we were talking about LenDale White, sure we would have won a NC in 2003 if LenDale White was playing instead of Lydell Ross. However, not sure if he could have pulled it off in 2002 like Clarett did.

Why stop at Big Ben? What if Larry Fitzgerald had changed his mind and come to OSU instead? What if Walter Reyes and/or Deshawn Wynn had come to OSU?

Tressel-ball is Tressel-ball, no matter who is lined up under center.

Wasn't Greg Jones from FSU originally coming to Columbus?

Ben R. developed at Miami because he had the playing time. If he'd been at tOSU, he would have been behind Krenzel and battling it out with Scotty Mac and would never have had the playing time he needed.

You simply cannot take the current version of BR and project him back 2-3 seasons. This is a guy who had one year of QB in HS. Going to a smaller school where he could get game experience was exactly the right choice for him, and is what turned him into the QB he is today.

Krenzel was QB on a National Championship team and in two BCS bowl wins, plus two wins over Michigan, yet on these boards, people still have to "apologize" for him not playing pretty enough. Leadership and decision-making are a bigger part of winning than perfect spirals.

The guy gave it up every game he played, and took some damned vicious hits when he ran. People who don't want to give him credit need to review the 2002 season. Check out the Purdue game, the fourth down pass to Jenkins in the Fiesta Bowl, and any of a number of drive-saving scrambles he made. I've watched a lot of football in my life, and I'm not sure that I've ever seen one player make more out of clutch situations in one season at any level.

By the way, in 2002 Miami University went 7-5 and did not go to a bowl game. BR was third in most conference passing stats that year, behind UCF's Ryan Schneider and Byron Leftwich of Marshall.

Ben himself will tell you he went to Miami for playing time. He wasn't sure when, if ever, he could play at OSU. He know he could start at Miami for many years. Honestly, if he'd played QB one more year in HS I think he ends up at OSU because so many teams would've been recruiting him he would've known how good he was. He also wanted to stay with a team that had been recuiting him all along.
