Rugby (6N, Rugby Championship, IRB 7s, etc.)

Wales will be picking up the Italian bonus point Saturday while France returns some players, but will get a tough match from England. My only question is whether I want to be at the pub by 9:15 am just to see Italy destroyed... probably not.

Sign up for Peacock. All the matches live for 4.99 a month. The tyranny of the Rugby Gold Pass is over. I'm not sure that FADO up here is even doing live streaming of the matches this year.

EDIT: And the route is on. 10-0 8 minutes in, and Italy will be down a man for awhile.

France still has a Lloyd Christmas chance. They'll need to beat Wales and Scotland and pick up a bonus point in both matches. Both games are in Stade Francaise, so I'm not writing them off just yet.

Scotland, too, has the slimmest mathematical chance should they win today and beat France and Italy getting the bonus point in all three while France beats Wales.

Good on Wales. Went out and handled business and put the tournament out of reach. I could see France winning (or also losing) both matches, but not with bonus points. Great, competitive Five Nations. I feel bad for Scotland that this is their best side in decades and they'll still finish midpack.

Holy Shit, I just watched it. Stupid yellow cards on Wales cost them a grand slam. Since I'm not a fan of bonus points overriding head-to-head, I won't be too upset if France wins the championship next week; they'll have earned it tonight. Wales did what nobody thought they could this 6N regardless of next week.

And in case it still needs to be said, Alun Wyn Jones is a full grown fucking man.

Absolutely agree on Jones. The guy is like 80 and looks like Quintus from Gladiator and still manages to make 22 fucking tackles. All-timer, for sure.

I'm on to the Lions tour and am concerned about the Springboks as they've not really played in over a year. Possibly going to go down and catch a couple of matches, though. Delta should be back flying direct from Atlanta by then.

Jones reminded me of an old school NFL middle linebacker: setting the defense, yelling orders at his teammates and then throwing his body into every play within reach.

He'll be 33 next World Cup, so I'm interested to see if he hangs it up before then or goes for one last go.

Warrior, for sure. Covid must've saved a little wear and tear. I'd be surprised with as close as the RWC is if he doesn't give it a shot; especially as Wales should at least make the semis again. He's already a legend, but if things break and they actually made the finals, he's past Gareth Thomas as the Welsh GOAT.

Yeah, I think if Wales continues to progress, has a good 6N next year and is in a solid position to roll their way into the semis, he'll give it a go unless his body says no.

Wales v All Blacks in Cardiff on Saturday. Kiwis are 11.5 to 1 favorites but never underestimate any team with Alun Wynn Jones.
