Rugby (6N, Rugby Championship, IRB 7s, etc.)

That could have gone either way. Without Alun Wynn Jones on the field, I was really surprised the boks didn't run away with it. Factor in that asswipe fan who ran onto the field right when The Fightin' Tom Joneses were marching for a try, and I can't be too disappointed with their play.

Fan is banned for life from Principality, and WRU is seeking to have him decertified and kicked off his local team.

Any idea if Columbus is going to make a play to host some of the 2031 World Cup games? I read that for a 20 team field, they're looking at 12 locations around the country. My hunch is that you can't get enough field width at Ohio Stadium and Crew Stadium is too small for the attendance. @RugbyBuck @Wadcutter

I hadn't even heard about 2031 until a South African wrote me asking about it this morning. My guess is the usual rugby suspects: Boston, NY, Miami, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, LA, San Diego, and Houston with Las Vegas and New Orleans thrown in for tourists. That leaves one spot, but I left DC out initially, so I'd say that's the twelve. I think Atlanta could be a wildcard only because of the international airport.

And I have to say I think the RWC here will be a mistake. Maybe in 9 years there will be a little more attention/interest, but the US is too big and spread out. i don't think it will draw. We're a niche sport here that, despite the "sleeping giant" theory that was being yapped about before I even started playing in the early '90s, I don't think it's ever going to or should be more than that.

All credit to Wales. Came in and played the Boks tothe finsl whistle. With Jantjies out, Boks are a different team and the Bok dominance in the second half showed through. Locals expect a 20+pt win in Bloemfontein. I like Wales to keep it closer.

A natural outcome of historical factors is that South African teams will always be under pressure to look like the 85% of the country who were previously disadvantaged. This leads to calls to include players on the team who might not be in form, whether due to advancing age, injuries, or other factors. The team that played today would have done the same to the Irish and it will have a chance in the RWC. I think we are going to have to send Faf DeKlerk to one of those tackling clinics in Bexley...

As a Wales fan, it's pretty damned hard to ever root against Siya Kolisi.

Springboks were a bit arrogant after blowing up the All Blacks and put a side out there that included several developmental players, who have a lot of promise but appeared again to be not ready for prime time. Argentina, once so bad that there was considerable anger about them playing in the southern hemisphere derby, wipe the Aussies. Strange days in rugby.
