The Buckeyes sent an offer to elite 2019 RB Devyn Ford.

As we slowly start to advance through August, fall camp continues to inch closer and closer. Along with preparing for the start of the season, the coaching staff is looking to stay on top of the recruiting world for not just the class of 2017, but for all classes that follow as well.

An elite offer to an elite player

A new offer went out to 2019 running back Devyn Ford (Stafford, VA / North Stafford) on Tuesday. Ford has not yet been evaluated by the major recruiting sites (because of his age), but his 19 total offers indicate that he'll be one of the tops at his position when the ranking do get released.

At 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Ford possesses great speed and has plenty of time to continue to mature physically. Right now, Virginia Tech seems like the early favorite, with a slew of southern schools also occupying the top of his list. Currently, that list means just about nothing considering his age and all the visits that will be set up in the future. Urban Meyer has plenty of time to get the Buckeyes into a position to make a run for the elite Ford. This is a recruitment that should last his entire high school career and won't be one for the faint of heart.

Expect Ford to make lots of visits, as he's sure to be one of the best players in his class. Just watch his highlight reel.

In the chase

To 2018 news, current target Derrik Allen (Marietta, GA / Lassiter) has made it apparent that Ohio State and Georgia are the two schools pursuing him the hardest. Allen, a five-star cornerback, is rated the No.2 player at his position and No.21 overall in his class.

Allen has elite cornerback size at 6-foot-1 and also holds 31 total offers. Allen does not have a favorite at this point, but this is another case of where this recruitment could go the distance.

Currently, the two projections on the 247Sports Crystal Ball have Allen staying in the Peach State.

With so much time between now and National Signing Day for the 2018 class, a lot can change. Every school in America will be vying for the services of Allen over the next couple of years. Ohio State has fared well in the state of Georgia since Urban Meyer arrived and they will look to continue that trend.
