Rutgers at tOSU, November 7th, 7 pm on BTN

Bucks miss Fuller and Dobbins more than we may have initially thought. So the question becomes how do you scheme around that? Offensively, there’s less concerns because Fields and the receivers are so damn good. Defensively, there are less options. Losing Brown was a big deal because moving Wade back to the nickel is now harder to do. Interested to see how they defend Tagovailoa and Locksley because it’s different than anything they’ve seen so far. Going to be a bigger challenge than what we previously might have thought.

More concerned about the shaky tackling and communication in the secondary and the inconsistent interior o-line play than any Pop Warner trick play BS. There’s no home run hitter at running back but it is what it is.

There’s legitimate concerns but the mark of a playoff team is how much they improve week to week. Just gotta keep grinding.

100% - lack of experience in the secondary coupled with NFL tackling is concerning and needs to see an actual passing attack to get better (or worse).

Areas for improvement
- Secondary, scheme is weak and players are too focused on making the highlight reel
- Tackling
- OLine, RBs, and run game. We showed some things against PSU, like the jet sweep - dive option and some unbalanced looks... that left the playbook entirely. Is that bc it was Rutgers? If that's what works, I'd rather just see it be the identity and "vanilla" part of the offense so it's 2nd nature... instead of thinking teams in Dec wont look at the PSU game tape.

Day said Garrett Wilson on fly sweeps helps do some of what Dobbins did, but need a couple more constraints. Good question on defense - hopefully just game time.

Honestly right now one main issue is that I'm still not sure how hard the offense is trying or what Day has planned. Right now he knows they can go full 2018, but that doesn't work all year so he's making a concerted effort to run the ball.

Feels like the passing game is on cruise control. Few slants, few screens. Not a ton of crossing routes even. Most passes are either rollouts, dump offs, or intermediate and deep shots. Not sure why.

What would it look like if OSU played Clemson or Bama? Similar, but I'd have to imagine (or hope) we'd see more quick passes and wrinkles. Also, more tempo.

The OL is as good as its weakest link, and right now Harry Miller is Taylor Decker in 2013. I think he'll be an AA level player eventually, but he's on a steep learning curve right now.

The defense is kinda what I expected. A little worried without Harrison out there, but both the 2nd halves recently are very hard to take significant info from. You're playing with decent or big leads and they're worried about big plays. I dont like the shifting they're doing more of now.

Basically, we haven't seen a full game from this team. It looks almost nonchalant and vanilla on offense, and like they're still working out issues with a young D.

Also, only the 3rd game. Basically I get it, it's really fucking annoying, but no reason to be worrying at this point.

I'd say PSU was a full game. And, despite records, the best team we've played so far. Indiana the only other decent team we'll play until B1G week.

It seemed like a fair representation of this D also.
The DLine can do work.
The LBs are solid and reliable.
The secondary is suspect, poor angles, poor tackling, and go for the knockout blow every time. Some of it is youth, but honestly feels reminiscent of 2018 or 2013 imo... the WR corps is similarly young but plays with technique, cuz Hartline is a stud.

I know we love our TEs but I would be interested to see how having 3-4 Wrs on the field. I would think going smaller and speedier would force other teams so also do the same.

Stretch defenses out and then run at them.
You motherfuckers. First I have to hear you bitch about not using the TE enough for 20 years during the Tressel/Meyer eras, now you want us to use them less? Make up your minds.

On defense I agree, PSU was a full game. Although I think they did start playing softer in the 4th Q.

On offense though I dunno. Maybe it's just what the offense is and I don't get it, but it felt like only part of the passing attack. They put up 530 yards with a base set of plays and just missed some RZ opportunities.
