Game Thread Rutgers @ Ohio State - 09/08/18, 3:30PM (BTN)

OSU will maul Rutgers in the trenches and offset any of the other stuff but theoretically their offense could present some interesting situations.

The QB is a quick release and accuracy kind of guy (but a true freshman).
His favorite WR is the slot guy #18
OC is a good one that likes to use a lot of TE's and pre snap movement to confuse assignments

They don't have the horses to do it but those are not things the OSU defense handles well.

Their defensive strength is the secondary so good (but manageable) step up for Haskins.

All in all, a good team to play before TCU.

Sounds like the D needs to get their shit together pretty fast. Have every confidence they will though.:oh:

OSU opens -34

Just sayin': That's a lot of points to cover for a team that gave up 31 points to a rather pathetic Oregon State team; however, we did beat the spread vs Oregon State by scoring 77. Yesterday I thought that we looked like a very good BIG XII team, i.e. no defense just outscore your opponent to win....

Re: Meyer is suspended for Ohio State's first three games of the season, but will allowed to return to the team on Monday, following Saturday's season opener against Oregon State, to resume coaching the team, with the exception of the following two game days against Rutgers and TCU.

Seriously, the coaches need to get our LBs and DBs playing much better. Maybe Urban's presence at practice this week with "shake up" the defense.

I would not be surprised with a defensive performance similar to the 1st game. A couple big play TDs given up letting them get into the 20s, maybe 30s, but tOSU will drop another 60+ performance on them.
If Rutgers scores 30 on us after being shut out two years in a row its officially time to panick. Shit if they score 20 its a fail for me personally.

Back 7 was without its top two players (Fuller and limited Borland) we will be fine

I wonder if they will try Tommy Togiai with Jones, Bosa, and Young on passing downs. How do you block against that much disruptive ability?

Offensively, I almost feel bad for Rutgers. It’s not going to be easy slowing an offense that operates this efficiently and with this amount of depth. I can’t see many defenses being able to slow this offense down.

Rewatching the Beaver game. The only TD they scored that wasn't due to shitty tackling, bad angles, and being out of position was their first one. I'm pretty sure those will be addressed emphatically this week...
I think if Borland and Fuller return to the lineup next week, some of those mistakes will be minimized, IMO.
