S Malik Hooker (All B1G, All-American, Dallas Cowboys)

OSU has had many very highly ranked recruits at safety not do much of anything. If you start at jamario o ‘ Neal there are many scrubs. How about eugene Clifford, Nate Oliver, Jamie wood, Ron tanner and derjuan gambrel? De’ven Bogard was a top 200 recruit at safety in 2012... cam burrows and erick Smith were both top 70 recruits the two years after that... Isaiah pryor was the 65th top recruit in the nation at safety in 2017 and don’t get me started on Pittsburgh brown.

It is great to see a 2-3 star athlete become a phenomenal and imposing talent. I love you Hooker.

4. MALIK HOOKER, 2016
After redshirting his freshman year and playing sparingly in 2015, Malik Hooker had one of the greatest breakout seasons in program history. Hooker's redshirt sophomore season saw him intercept seven passes (tied for best mark amongst safeties) for three touchdowns while recording 74 tackles.

Hooker ended his season as a consensus First Team All-American and forgoed his final two years of eligibility for the NFL Draft.

According to Colts.com writer Andrew Walker, Hooker has found his rhythm with Eberflus in training camp.

“I would say that he's had good practices,” Eberflus said. “I thought he really did a nice job of hustling and angles to the football. For the most part, when you dial in in terms of the all-encompassing (evaluation), I thought he's done a nice job so far. We're happy where he is and he's in a good spot.”

The Colts are looking for better production in their secondary this season. They added NFL veteran Xavier Rhodes to secure a starting cornerback spot. He comes over from the Minnesota Vikings and brings experience to the position.

However, they are counting on guys like Hooker to slow down talented AFC offenses. Hooker has shown the ability to disrupt the passing game with 11 pass breakups. Now, he aims to put it all together in his fourth year. He has a good reason as the Colts declined his fifth-year option in the offseason.

“It was more so like a motivation call for me,” Hooker told Colts reporters. “I have to go out there and prove myself type of thing. It is more so me having to show the consistency I had last year and show it more often.”

Eberflus is liking what Hooker is putting on tape so far. He believes the safety is on the same track as he finished last season.

“He's just going to keep working,” Eberflus said. “Like, last training camp was his best training camp and he started off the season really strong, and he's on that same track and we're excited where he is.”

While Hooker enters the last year of his rookie deal, he is determined to make an impact for the team. He looks forward to watching the team shine with new pieces in the fold.

“I have to find a create more turnovers,” Hooker said. “It doesn’t have to be interceptions, but find a way to create more fumbles this year. I am trying to be that vet out there that can lead vocally.”
