S Orhian Johnson (official thread)

Not to hijack, but do you guys realize that USF is the 9th largest school in the country? I didn't, until I saw an ESPN piece about their sudden rise.

i'm pretty sure it's a lot more of a commuter school than the rest of the top ten, (with the possible exception of UCF), which can make a school seem a lot smaller than it is. it also has a tendency to detract from the overall feel of a university. hopefully that will help us in the case of Orhian.

Published November 17, 2007

ST. PETERSBURG - With a decisive win over Boca Ciega behind him, Jefferson head coach Mike Fenton was already looking forward to next weeks Class 4A state playoff game against Plant.

"I wanted to play Plant," Fenton said. "They have a great program. It gives us a chance to come and shock the state champions."

Boca Ciega seemed up to the challenge early. On the Pirates second play, quarterback Orhian Johnson completed a 54-yard pass to Ja-Vonta Trotter setting up a 25-yard Randall Klafter field goal.

But the momentum shifted in Jefferson's favor quickly as quarterback Zack Grossi threw touchdown passes of 57 and 58 yards to open receivers. A 4-yard touchdown run by Mark Winters gave the Dragons 20 unanswered points in the first half.

Although Orhian Johnson is ranked as the No. 49 quarterback in the country by Scout.com, most of his favorites (Ohio State, Kansas, South Florida and Tennessee) are recruiting him as an athlete. "I'm being recruited as a quarterback, defensive back, wide receiver," Johnson said. "The only school which has just talked about quarterback is USF..."

I'd have to think that if he waits til signing day to commit, that he might be squeezed out of the picture. If other recuits looking at us actually pull the trigger he may end up on the outside looking in for Ohio State. He isn't so good that you make room for him if the numbers aren't there, is he? I mean we have A LOT of really top-notch athletes looking at us seriously this year... Ahhhhh. what a nice thing to say.....

By John Decker...talks about how badly Indiana wants him and talks about his in-home with assistants from IU. Making an official to Indiana this weekend and talks about wanting to play QB in college.

The OSU staff obviously has different ideas about what position they see him projecting as...

From the USF site...talks about what he is looking when making his decision and says he will decide whenever it feels right. Does not have a preference as far as what position he will play.
