S Orhian Johnson (official thread)

"Football is football," Orhian Johnson said. "To me things like distance and weather and stuff aren't really that important. I've said it from the beginning and it's still true - I want the school I choose to be like another family and a home away from home. That's what I'm looking for and when I feel like it's right, I'll pull the trigger. But it'll most likely be on signing day..."

Based on what?

Orhian is 6-4, 184 lbs and runs a 4.55. He's a super-versatile player, and watching some of his videos, I think he could play almost any position other than OL/DL. Tressel has a habit of pulling diamonds out of the rough, Orhian is certainly one in my mind.

Orhian will visit tOSU on 1/11 and says he will play whatever position the coaches tell him to play. He also has offers from Indiana, South Florida, Kansas, Connecticut, Florida International and Western Kentucky.

I really like this kid, tremendous athlete, but at this point....I would have to think its a numbers game.

IF he has his grades in order and is leaning towards OSU, this may come down to whether or not he gets a LOI on signing day.

Big Safety, Big WR, QB....lots of possiblities.

^He was offered for a REASON!!! This kid looks an awful like Anderson Russell...Situation is similar as well. The only other offer Anderson had was Duke. Don't underestimate the analysis of this staff because they find under the radar studs often...Chimdi Chekwa the 2* DB comes to mind as well.

Not sure how you are reading into my comments, but I never questioned the staffs ability to judge talent or how they recruit.

It simply comes down to the fact that several kids that were offered before him have shown renewed interest...and Orhian may go to the OSU coaches and they might tell him that they don't have a scholarship for him.

We have no idea what the exact story is with him. I was just pointing out that with more numbers on the back end of the recruiting season...this kid may be left out.

And I am not sure how you can compare him to Anderson Russell....Russell was a FB in a Wing-T/ Option offense in highschool if I remember correctly, and is a 6'0" 205 lb Safety at OSU.

Orhian is a completely different shape  plus I think his first look will be at WR

I was thinking more in the likeness of Brian Hartline...both were QB's in highschool (BH up until is bro took over his senior year)....maybe Michael Jenkins as well

There are those who are working to confirm Orhian's reported offer list...either way, I agree with dozerbuck...nice looking ATH but I don't see there being room at this point.

Also if you read Brew's free article in his thread, he says there is Jenkins, Pryor, and Wells left and "maybe Harris and Liuget". I don't hear any of the recruits mentioning Johnson, so I tend to doubt we are recruiting him too hard at this point. He could just be on the backburner to gauge our chances on Harris and Liuget at this point (which is what it seems to me).

Ok, I just posted a message in the Bayless thread and I am now thinking this.....

Harris
Bayless
Johnson

in that order...though after watching Orhian's film again.....he is so athletic I would take any two of those three.

However, I honestly could see him being a plan B to Pryor......especially with transfer rumors abound.

Orhian is excited to get to Columbus. He says he has had all of his questions about tOSU answered but his Dad has a few to ask, but a commitment is not out of the question this weekend.

I've been a big fan of Orhian. He's a versatile guy...however, the part about him possibly committing by the end of this weekend is a weird one. I am not sure that we have room for him at this point. I would think as some people have mentioned before, Pryor, Josh, Keith and Brandon are probably higher up in priority for this class.

I think the coaches know how many scholarships we will have available... not to worry.

Exactly. We have spots saved for guys like Pryor, Jenkins & Co. whether they come here or not.

I don't think we have ever completely filled an 85 man roster before with a recruiting class... at least in the Tressel era. We always have a couple of walk-ons that each receive a scholarship that was saved for a guy on NLOID that chose a different school.

Hoping that's not the case this year.
