S Ronald Tanner (Official Thread)

What Year, DBB? I am an '85 grad. I see the same things from the neighborhood when I go back home, although I think the school's acedemics are okay. The neighborhood has been sliding downhill for the last 20+ years. It is a shame...a school with a great football tradition sitting in the middle of what is quickly becoming a blighted area. I still remember Coach Bruce showing up at practices often in my first couple of years. Coach Stewart was a great coach and should have been coaching in college ball long before he took the volunteer job with OSU. He was a great man, along the same lines as Woody. Great person but a real arsekicker on the practice field.

Anyway...enough if the good 'ole days...

A good number of great Buckeyes from Eastmoor.

Every time I go back home, it depresses me to see what's happened to the old neighborhood. Statistics say that it is more difficult to get a 3.7+ GPA under those conditions. Mr. Tanner, it seems, pays more attention to his books than to statistics.

Here's hoping that he pays more attention to the name of the field he plays on (Griffin) than to the style of helmet he wears (winged).

Ohio will be key again for MSU
Posted: Feb. 27, 2010
By MATT DORSEY

Since being hired at Michigan State back in November of 2006, Mark Dantonio has made recruiting the state of Ohio a top priority.

Other coaches like John L. Smith and Nick Saban also recruited there, but Dantonio has taken it to another level. Nearly 30 percent of the players signed by Michigan State since Dantonio's arrival played their high school ball in Ohio. That percentage is higher than any other Big Ten school -- except for Ohio State, of course.

Michigan State has recently extended scholarships offers to several Ohio players they are prioritizing for the class of 2011.

Mark Givler, who covers recruiting for OhioVarsity.com, recently stated that the players that Dantonio has offered from the Buckeye State are "impressive" and he expects Michigan State to sign "another strong group from Ohio."

Here's a look at a few of his preseason top-ranked players that Michigan State is currently pursuing:

No. 9: DB Ron Tanner of Columbus Eastmoor Academy
The top-rated safety prospect in Ohio was offered by Michigan State when he was on campus back in January. The Buckeyes quickly followed suit and they could be tough to beat for this local product.

Bucknuts $ - Tanner And Cash In The House
By Bill Kurelic
Posted Feb 28, 2010

Talks about meeting Jeremy Cash & spending a little time with him... Tanner didn't stay long as he had to get to Eastmoors b-ball game that night... He plans on taking Spring trips to at least Northwestern & _ichigan, possibly some others as well... Says OSU still rates very highly & doesn't discuss a time table...

Scout $ - Tanner to Commit Before Season?
Allen Wallace of SuperPrep.com, Mar 2, 2010

He & his whole family are "huge" Buckeye fans... Location won't be a deciding factor but OSU being so close doesn't hurt since Tanner has a tight knit family... He's also really impressed by the coaches & facilities at Michigan St... He's still open & seriously considering all of his offers... Would like to decide before the season if he can...

Rivals $ - Tanner still high on the Wolverines
Josh Helmholdt of TheWolverine.com, March 9, 2010

Tanner plans to visit _ichigan again by Summer... Feels he can get early PT there & believes the coaches will get the program back among the elite... Duke & Cincy offered recently & Stanford seems close... Yale is recruiting him though Ivy league schools cannot offer athletic scholarships... No leader, no time table...
