S Ronnie “Rocket” Hickman (All B1G, All-American, Cleveland Browns)

THE HURRY UP: OHIO STATE OFFERS NORTH CAROLINA'S DESMOND EVANS, COMMIT RONNIE HICKMAN NAMED ALL-AMERICAN BEFORE TEARING ACL AND TONY ALFORD WILL VISIT MARCUS CROWLEY

HICKMAN SUFFERS SEASON-ENDING INJURY

This weekend has been quite the emotional roller coaster for 2019 Ohio State commit Ronnie Hickman. Friday, Hickman received an All-American jersey, meaning he'd have the chance to play in the All-American Bowl on Jan. 5, 2019 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

From USA Today Sports:

“It’s a dream come true,” he said. “I grew up watching this very prestigious event, and to see the players that came through this, it’s amazing for me to be a part of the tradition.”

Hickman, who plays safety on defense for DePaul Catholic (Wayne, N.J.), said he tries to take after Ramsey’s play style. The Jacksonville Jaguars player is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, a physical player who’s not afraid to trash talk his opponents.

“He’s really aggressive on defense,” Hickman said. “I kind of like that, how he plays with that edge and that chip on his shoulder.”

But then, Hickman was made aware of devastating news, putting a halt to any type of chance to play in San Antonio. Sunday, it was reported that Hickman learned of an ACL tear, ending his senior season much too early.

From Andrew Koob of NJ.com:

Hickman, who was presented with his All-American Game jersey before DePaul's game against Don Bosco Friday, was sporting a large brace on his right knee throughout the day and was in street clothes in the Spartans' 59-28 loss. McKenna also confirmed that Hickman will not participate in the All-American game.

Offensively this season, Hickman totaled 609 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 26 catches while also rushing for 23 yards and a score, which were all totaled in the St. Peter's game. Defensively he recorded 19 tackles, one for a loss, while breaking up five passes and forcing a fumble. He's also returned a punt for a touchdown, doing so against Seton Hall Prep in DePaul's second game of the season.

He finishes his scholastic career with 1,418 receiving yards and 22 total touchdowns (19 receiving) on 70 catches over the course of two seasons on offense. Defensively Hickman totaled 71 tackles, two interceptions and 15 pass breakups in 19 games in three seasons as a defensive back.

Hickman ends his senior year with 26 catches for 609 yards and nine touchdowns alongside 19 tackles and five pass breakups. The four-star safety committed to Ohio State in April and is considered the 11th-best overall safety in the nation.

RONNIE HICKMAN, RECOVERING FROM TORN ACL, GETTING ACCLIMATED TO LIFE AT OHIO STATE AS EARLY ENROLLEE

As Ronnie Hickman sat down for his first interview session as an Ohio State football player on National Signing Day, the early enrollee safety was taken aback by how many media members were in attendance at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

“This is cool,” Hickman said. “I’ve never seen this many people trying to interview me before.”

Hickman came to Ohio State as a four-star recruit who was ranked as the 10th-best safety in the class of 2019, so he knows what it’s like to attract attention for his ability to play football. He won a New Jersey state title at DePaul Catholic High School in 2017, so he knows what it’s like to compete for championships.

Arriving at Ohio State can be an adjustment for anyone, though, as one acclimates to college life on a campus of more than 60,000 students. That adjustment can be especially profound for a new Ohio State football player, particularly one who enrolls in January, as he goes straight from high school to combining a full spring semester of classes with early morning workouts.

The benefit of enrolling in January, though, is having a full semester to make that adjustment before the rest of the freshman class – which Hickman believes will improve his chances of being successful at Ohio State.

“I think it just helps getting used to everything, because it’s a whole new system once you get here,” Hickman said. “Especially coming from high school, no matter where you come from, it’s going to be different. So I think this does help me, especially when it comes to competing with the guys in my class that didn’t come early, I have a little extra step.”

Unfortunately for Hickman, he isn’t able to fully participate in winter workouts with the Buckeyes like the rest of the early enrollees. Hickman tore his ACL in his right knee in October, so he still has a way to go in his recovery before he will be able to run at full speed again.

That said, Hickman feels good about the progress he has made in his recovery over the past four months. Since arriving at Ohio State, Hickman has been working regularly with Adam Stewart, the Buckeyes’ head physical therapist, and he said he is currently feeling the best he has since undergoing surgery.

“It’s honestly been great,” Hickman said of his progress in his rehabilitation. “So I’m excited to just keep improving daily, and get better as an athlete.”

it's getting to the point where you come in with a major injury or one happens in your first year you get passed bye. I think his "window" if he ever had one is gone. I bet he ends up in the portal. Same with Babb. Too much talent on this team and arriving. These are great kids but that's just the way it is right now.

I guess we should just give up on Vincent and Crowley as well?
