Sad day in Kirkersville, Ohio

Identity missing....
  • Crazy day today - We were on our way out to the car to take our son to school in Kirkersville this morning when my phone buzzed due to a post on a Facebook scanners page I follow. The shooting happened about a block away from the elementary school.

They've just announced the Kirkersville police officer who initially responded has passed away due to the injuries he received at the initial shooting. I don't know all the details yet, but it sounds like the shooter picked him off as he was getting out of his car.

From the news, we saw police from Pataskala, Kirkersville, Whitehall, Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, Heath, Hebron, Newark and the OSHP and LCSO. They came down on the situation hard and contained it with extreme speed.

The school system out here handled this thing perfectly. There were few if any kids actually at the school and due to the time of the shooting (0745-0800), most of the bus kids were still being picked up at their bus stops. They re-routed literally over 1,000 kids to the middle school or to other schools on the fly and communicated it clearly. most/all of the kids that go to Kirkersville have been picked up at the Middle school by now.

It's a sad day in Ohio. It would have been a lot worse without the sacrifice put forth by the first responders. Thoughts and prayers for the victims.

As if the tragedy couldn't have gotten worse...

2 employees at the nursing home have died.

The officer responding has 6 kids and his wife is pregnant with number 7. :(

    Yep...you're right...I've corrected it....

Matthew understood real quick that the bad guy was in the area and we couldn't take him.
