San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

The only bright side of this shart shake of a season is that it might finally be the end of Trent Baalke's reign of terror. His horrific drafting this last five years has left them with one of the three worst rosters in the NFL.

CBS Sports has Gerbil as the #3 overall (:slappy:) and #1 OLB (ahead of Tim Williams from Alabama). Any team that drafts Gerbil ahead of Williams needs to dissolve their franchise...

Just sayin': Since the 49ers have a total jerk for a CEO (his mother is the actual owner) who has transformed a franchise that reached the NFC championship game three consecutive seasons and reached the Super Bowl in 2013 into a dysfunctional organization that is the laughing stock of the NFL; their franchise should be dissolved unless she sells the team. In addition, they have the 2nd pick in the draft. They should draft Peppers 2nd and just dissolve the franchise for two valid reasons, etc.

Hope springs eternal. Jed is a toolbox and a malignant tumor on the franchise, but my hope is that somebody will still find some appeal in restoring the glory to a storied franchise. They did it five years ago, it just happened to be a terrible mix of defective personalities that combusted and wrecked the franchise.

It's gotta be an eye opener playing in your shiny new stadium to 1/3 capacity crowds. Baalke and his fetish for drafting broken toys is gone, so that's a start.

Or, you could be the new Browns.

So, another new era is upon us.

I actually like the Shanahan hire. Not sure about Lynch as a GM, but he cannot possibly be worse than Baalke.

They've already trimmed some Baalke mistakes from the roster. It appears they're bringing in Hoyer as a bridge QB, which I'm fine with. He's in no way a franchise guy, but he can fill the spot until they find their guy. Also appears they'll sign Garcon, which will help because the WR corps has been a mess for four seasons. Also Kyle Juszczyk, Pro-Bowl FB from the Ravens, which will be a big help to El Guapo.

Like the moves so far, and with a metric shit-ton of cap space, hopefully they can plug some more holes. It's gonna be a slow burn because the roster is largely dogshit, but at least they're doing something, unlike the past two offseasons.

He wanted to get people talking.
He did.
It's his Right of Free Speech.
We all love Constitutional rights, don't we?

And as far as his qualities as a NFL starting QB.
In case no one else has noticed, the NFL QB position as a whole is lacking quality starters.
Part of that is because of what is going on in college football at the QB position. With college offenses running the spread.
NFL GM's don't love free speech, and they don't think Kaepernick is a quality NFL starter. At least according to Joe Thomas, who just might know a thing or two about how the NFL really works:

Joe nails it. Kaep needs a VERY specific type of offense to be effective. Harbrau and Greg Roman tried to make him a conventional QB, and he was ineffective. He was successful in 2012-13 when they ran an offense that allowed him to utilize his athleticism to make plays. I don't see many teams running the pistol, and like Thomas says, owners don't want a media circus around the backup QB.
